Peloton still bunched as they begin the first climb for the 2nd time.

I don't think anyone is off the front as yet.

Ruth Corset, protected Aussie rider, has already had a bike change, and it seems she's expected to change back to the original bike. Signboard was held up by a soigneur "Bike change in 100m" ... things are different without the radios. :D

:D

That's funny right there and shouldn't go unnoticed.

And thanks Aussie friends for the play by play. It's 8:30 pm here on the left coast in the US of A. No cycling coverage on TV tonight.

Edit to add: but I think I'm going to bed. So sleepy...

Dim, it might just be you & me watching this, with most of our Euro friends asleep, no coverage in the US and most (all?) of the other Aussies watching the AFL grand final.

I don't have high speed internet access where I live (where many people lack sufficient teeth and basic hygiene) so it's a no-go on live internet coverage for me, unfortunately.

Yeah, but where you live you can just go and watch it live.

and already the malasians been dropped, and the speeds not that high.. good to see them racing but clearly a long way out of their depth..

lap 3 started, pace starting to pick up a bit.

The service vehicle situation is awful, they need to get the sorted for tommorow or some big riders could lose out

I was going to say...34kph is just not that big. Sky what's the total length of this race?

8 laps, about 16k a lap..

attacks are starting. US attacked but shut down pretty quickly, now rider from south africa with a few others attacking on the cllimb.. about 7 riders got a bit of a gap.

Not much though, just about enough to thin the field out to single file

It's 127.2 km.

Edit to add: The women have been hitting 70kmh on the fast downhill. Yesterday the U23s averaged 80kmh and the fastest speed recorded was approx 90kmh.

Commentator (Dave Brailsford) suggesting everyone is nervous about the course and taking it easy in the early stages, like the U23s did yesterday.

Thanks all for the updates/race statistics.

Your USA left coast forum-friend here however..is entirely unable to stay awake at this late hour for continued coverage. Dammit.

Goodnight and don't let the Funnel Webs bite.

Zzzzzzz...

Sounds like an interesting press conference. :D

Edit: The coverage could do with better graphics - km to finish, time gaps etc
