Vos will prolly be disqualified.

If it was a flat finish she would be, but on a uphill finish they usually get more leeway. I don't think she cares anyway she already had 3 silvers.

Great finish. I really thought Cooke and Arndt were going to hold on. 4th and 5th have to be disappointing for them.

If Cooke had jumped a few seconds earlier she would have won. Don't know why she stopped looking behind, she can't have thought they wouldn't be caught?

Johansson should have had silver.
Boxed in, hit by a camera and still third. Pretty impressive.

Cooke would probably have won if race radios were being used - not really an excuse though - you can't wait until you've been caught

Conclusions after U23 & womens: The last hill is too far from the finish. Canada killed Arndt and that other girl today, Italy and Spain will be happy to do it on sunday for a Pozzato vs. Freire.

Horrible course.

Yeah, the way the womens' group came back together was quite telling. 40-50 man sprint I reckon. Still think 16 times over those will be too difficult for Cav and Greipel. So Gilbert, Freire, EBH, Cancellara

Farrar might even make it. Gilbert will have to improvise, maybe if he takes Canc with him there's a chance. But I'm guessing Italy will have 5 guys togheter within a km of the last hill.

Gutted for Cooke, she was looking behind and seemed to have the legs so not sure what went wrong other than she miscalculated

The Italian took it well Vos must have thought she finally had it :(

Had to say I thought it was in the bag for Cooke when they got to finishing straight and hadn't been caught...

So they have had the presentations, but now there is talk of a protest re 2nd & 3rd places.

I was a bit surprised when I saw the were handing out medals already. I like Vos, but she really shouldn't get silver.

Johansson says she is disappointed because she was going for the win and doesn't expect a challenge to change the results but wants to make the point that she was boxed in.

Brave Azzure!

Well done team Italia - great teamwork - shame Bronzini while winning so well - had to wear such chin decorations.

Good shout. : )

The finale was pretty intense, but seeing Bronzini still in the chasing group meant she was going to be hard to stop. I'm really thrilled for her, she's taken better-quality wins this season than last year so this is a nice way to round it off. And the Italians played it well throughout the whole race.

I thought Leleivyte would do better when I spied her in the chase group too, but having done the hard bit she just didn't looked very strong in the sprint, as she hasn't for significant parts of the season. Not sure what's happened there.

The Dutch made it harder for themselves than they needed to. They could have afforded to sacrifice one of Vos' domestiques to try and get into a move off the front and put the pressure on other teams, Loes Gunnewijk or Noortje Tabak would have been bad news. Chantal Blaak was ace, though.

So the dominant team from the Isles didn't dominate so well then? Interesting considering the heavy favouritsm.

As I've said before, almost all of her best results during the year came from races with Romoli in the leadout (which is obviously impossible at the Worlds or anywhere now :(). Given that Rasa was Bronzini's last leadout last year before stepping up to be Safi's main sprinter this year, and that Bronzini's results this year are superior to last year, I wonder if she has all the pace she needs but a problem with timing and/or positioning and needs guiding somewhat.

It probably didn't help that Andruk was riding against her. In fact, what happened to Andruk? She was there for a while, but must have drifted back. Ended up 12 minutes down, it seems. I thought she'd hang around until quite late, and even fancied that she'd go for a break during the earlier part.

The problem is it's hard for Vos to actually win the Wc.H since that first win. They all ride on her wheel and never work with her in a lead group. And when she gets away solo, they all co-operate and get her back.
And ofcourse, being the only Dutch girl in the group doesn't help against, for instance, 2 Italian girls, which happened twice. Or opening up the sprint way too early, which happened once.
So, she'll again have a tough time winning and probably end up 2nd again.

Van Vleuten mechanical really dashed vos's hopes. She needed some one there to work for her, in the end it was left to vos to bridge the gap to the front two, and as a result she blew with 50m to go (she was right in front of me when she sloweeddd... devastating :( )

Exciting finish though...

The Brits rode really well, Pooley chasing everything but Cooke threw the win away in the end. She needed to look round at least once in the last 500 metres but didnt.. Still these things happen.

I'm beginning to think Cancellara has a great chance on this course now with that fast descent, If he gets any sort of gap he will be gone.

She must have been really close to crashing after being hit by that camera...
