Arrate is a dead-end. You COULD, however, do the steep part, and then turn left to go over Ixua, down to Etxebarria, and then over the climb adjacent to Arrate to return to Eibar. This would keep most of what's good about Arrate without going all the way to the summit (which is actually called Usartza).
So something like this?:

I thought Etxebarria was a guy... (well, it is also a guy...)
Could make for some rather interesting racing...

That would require some resurfacing of the descent to make it safe for racing. More like this:

Etxebarria IS a guy (lots of them, in fact). It means "new house(s)" - a lot of Basque names refer to the family house, so Etxebarria, Etxezarreta, Bengoetxea, Goikoetxea, Olaetxea, Ormaetxea and so on. Similarly you will find a lot of Basques whose names refer back to toponyms either in and of themselves (Fernando Amorebieta, Pello Bilbao) or in the form of the (Surname) de (Toponym) style (Alberto López de Munain, Íñigo Ruiz de Galarreta).

The village's most famous export is Amets Txurruka.

Using living people as part of the route... could be interesting!

Speaking of the Basques, an open letter from seven Basque pro cyclists was published on Biciciclismo today. In it, the seven pros, who have all represented Euskaltel before moving on, express their regret at the way Euskaltel-Euskadi no longer represent what they felt it did to them, and how the new management approach has led to the jettisoning of highly popular riders like Txurruka and Velasco, doing what appears to be in their view sacrificing the soul of the team for UCI points. They also post a short and to the point note of support to Victor Cabedo's family and friends.

The seven signatories are:
Iker Camaño (Endura Racing)
Jonathan Castroviejo (Movistar)
Koldo Fernández de Larrea (Garmin-Sharp)
Beñat Intxausti (Movistar)
Markel Irizar (Radioshack-Nissan)
David López (Movistar) and
Haimar Zubeldia (Radioshack-Nissan)

funny enough had they decided to also support the the team that developed them and stayed there and most certainly EE wouldn't need to do such drastic change in their management style.

Ey, a mixed bag. They all had their various reasons. Zubeldia was stood by for years, but couldn't take the pressure of expectation when he was turned into team leader when Mayo disappeared, for example, while Irizar is a cancer survivor which meant he was probably just as important for Radioshack as he could ever have been for Euskaltel, and Lance has more money. Koldo Fernández in particular was at Euskaltel for years and had already achieved pretty much everything he ever could expect to achieve with them.

But there's also Castroviejo and Intxausti, who by themselves could probably have scored Euskaltel the points necessary to prevent them from sacking Txurruka.

It's like they're saying, we've left the sinking ship, but please don't try to keep the ship afloat.

He was asked to answer questions sent by the fans and it was stuff like which races he liked the most (it sounded like he enjoyed a lot Vuelta), what races he will do next (couple of races in Italy like Emilia and Lombardia), how he find himself in Sky and what improved the most (he said that he's having great time and that he improved much more his position on TT bike and his whole TTing improved) and so on.

Yes. in the 2nd and 9th edition after the finish was on top of the Cauberg. = 20%

The new proposed finish will probably result in more Group (about 50) Bunch sprints favouring the guys like Boonen, Sgan & Degenkolb.

These guys have MSR, the cobbled classics and the late season one day races like Vattenfall, GP Quest.

Let the Ardeness classics be for the Puncheurs/Climbers.
