And just recently I was joking about EBH beating Langeveld in last year's Eneco TT, and about how that wasn't really much of an achievement... I guess it was :p

Anyone knows why he has so differing results in long TTs? 106:th in 2010 Dauphiné, 105:th and 121:th Tdf 2008.

And then second in Eneco 2009 and second here, what's up with that?

because like 90% of all cyclists they don't go full in long itt's they just use them as rest days.

This.
He's only gone full when he had a GC to defend or when he feels really good.
And before the Giant bikes he sucked on the Colnago ones.

But he should really use this as specialism, Langeveld in form is one of the better riders on the flat. And he is really explsovie as well.

I don't think that explains everything. If he is so good on ITTs as his results in Eneco & Limousin suggests; has he won nationals? Should he try to specialise in TTs? Will he be allowed to ride for placements in ITTs by his team? Worlds?

It was a question out of curiosity of the said rider by the way. Maybe this isn't the thread to discuss it in, but a more detailed answer would have been appreciated. Thanks anyway!

PS: Thanks for some more info Dekkertifo

langeveld was also a strong timetrialist in juniors but it's just not much of a focus for him so he barely rides them at 100% doing a (long) itt full isn't exatcly fun to do for most guys so most riders won't bother unless there is something for them to achieve like a gc.

Rolf Aldag has some interesting things to say in the interview on the front page. Like this gem:
“If we have a young GC rider we can develop, that’s good, but investing money in GC riders who can’t win the Tour makes no sense. If you look at the 2010 Tour de France, Mark Cavendish was the biggest story outside of Contador and Schleck, so our goal has to be to support him,” Aldag told Cyclingnews.
Can I translate this to "bye bye Michael Rogers"?

we'll let me give you the answer with another questions

why could ivan basso tt in 2005 and 2006 and only in the gt?
why leivi leipheimer suddenly was able to win a tdf tt again after rejoining a jb team in 2007?
why was oscar perrero able to place in the top 10 of a tdf tt in 2006?
why was rassmussen 11th in the tdf tt 2007?
why pantani could tt only in one year during his career: 1998?
why is christian horner a better tt than valverde if he have to beat him for a overall win?
how could stefan schumacher beat cancellara twice in 2008?
how could janez brajkovic take a minute on contador at the dauphine?

the answer of all those questions is: they had the right preperation for their main goals.;) that's the way it is.

And you're comparing this to Sebastian Langeveld's TT in the Tour du Limousin? Well, let me tell you, this wasn't one of his main goals for this season ;)

He just went full gas, because he felt he had a chance of doing a good GC. Motivation makes all the difference. If there's nothing to gain, why bother?

Vuelta a Chile is back next year with 9 stages (Jan 28 - Feb 6) as a UCI 2.2 race with 10 local and 9 international teams to be designated.

That should be good. I expect people like Daotec, Ryo, etc. to keep us all informed. What is the terrain like in Chile? I know it's not as high in altitude as Peru or Bolivia are. I wonder if any PT teams will show up and do the Tour de San Luis as well. I would say ISD will show up, assuming they don't merge with Lampre.

Carmiooro adios !

The team is to quit and about to stop to excist ... so also a ladies team to be desolved.

Source: today in Gazetta Dello Sport in the Menchov article ... one line on the right bottom.

The article also states that Cunego is about to stay with Lampre-ISD

Chile is long and narrow, and pretty much all the way the West is fairly low altitude close to the Pacific and the East is high altitude up in the mountains. I think the highest points are close to 6000m above sea level, though obviously people aren't going to be racing bikes at that level.

TGBM has announced he won't be there in Geelong. Probably good for the excitement in the race, because now it's wide open.

(so who's the next strongest Dutch rider. Tom Leezer? Oh wait, it's the Koos to end all Kooses!)

Please not Kroon... although I'm sure ACF will launch a campaign to take him.

Bos is a really, really, reeeally awful climber, so no. Leezer: oh well, it's not like we have 9 riders who are clearly stronger than him.

I know who I would take. Just wondering what's going through van Vliet's strange mind :)
And he'll certainly bring Kroon.

As long as he brings his daughter for the photo shoots I'm fine anyway :D
