what reason, besides disliking a single rider on saxo, would make argos a better team for the wt?

I don't dislike a single rider, I dislike Riis and what he stands for. :)

Guys like Bennati, Sutherland, Tosatto, Kroon etc. don't give me anything. They have their best years behind them.

Argos meanwhile has loads of promising young riders, Barguil, Degenkolb, Kittel, Ludvigsson, Sinkeldam, Ahlstrand...

I prefer the future over the past.

Ugh, anybody over Argos. They get invited to pretty much every race anyway, and the races they don't get invited to are ones like País Vasco where they'd stink up the joint and just wind up competing with GreenEdge for who can do the worst on the Teams Classification.

Corrected you there. :)

ya let's fill the WT with still u23 riders, i am sure they will deliver fantastic results on their first season . . . also of the 4 riders you mentioned only 1 won't be a domestique at saxo next year so that's pretty unfair.

what about contador, kreuziguer, roche, majka, breschel, Zaug and Kump?

argos are only better at sprinting, even at cobbles if breschel finally leaves his injuries behind that would make saxo and argos even so i don't see how can a they add anything to the WT.

argos will very likely be invisible at the Giro, the ardennes, VaPV, VaC and the italian one day races that makes much of the WT calendar and some more for crying out loud.

Well as I said - I prefer the future over the past. Saxo is as past-y as a cycling team can be these days. Argos is the opposite. Not everyone I mentioned will be a future star, but they have the potential. C'mon, they have the Avenir winner! Kittel! Degenkolb! Future GT, sprint and classic stars.

Contador is a clinic issue - no need to debate that here. But this alone makes me want to leave Saxo out.

From the other Saxo names you mentioned only Kump gets me excited. Roche? Kreuziger? Majka? There's nothing as exciting as 13th places in GTs. ;)
Zaugg is a one-month-rider.
Breschel? A career of failed expectations.

I fear we have to agree to disagree here.

With Argos in the World Tour, you will have 19 World Tour teams, not 18. Saxo Bank will race all WT-races anyway, and that would make the WorldTour extremely laughable and irrelevant.

Also, if you ask the casual cycling fan, 80 % would prefer Saxo Bank over Argos, as they will be like: "What the hell is Argos - Shimano?"

And the world's most famous athlete of the sport not in the top league? You will NEVER see that in other sports.

Kreuziguer is a potential top5 rider in any GT. You praise the young riders of Argos and then you put a "?" in front of Majka? What is the rider of Argos that is a better climber than Majka? Or potentially better climber than Majka?
I agree that last year without Contador Saxo was crap in most races but this year they're a very all rounded team with a very reasonable depth. Argos just can't compare to that: they're basically a sprinters team, and I hope a very good classics team to support Degenkolb.
Also, if you want to focus on the future, Saxo also have some prospects: Boaro, McCarthy, Kump and Majka.

@Bye Bye Bicycle: I think you're right about Kroon but: 1) Bennatti is still a very good rider capable of getting handy wins and decent semi-classics performances. Not to mention is TTT and short TT skills. 2) Tosatto is actually one of the few Saxo Bank 2012 riders that has some WT points from a 7th (?) place in Roubaix. Anyway, he's a domestique/road captain, so has long as he does that fine (even Noval played a decent role in the Vuelta and everybody, including me, was making jokes about him).

I don't get this invitation argument. Saxo will get invitations to any event Contador's interested in as well should they not make the cut.

same for argos with degenkolb and kittel, the thing is if argos is WT there are some very important races where no1 on their roster can perform at any decent level which isn't the case of saxo.

doesn't matter how much you dislike riis and contador, against cold hard facts you can't do anything. argos may get the wt spot but doesn't mean they are the better team for it.
