Rumors from italian FCI is that on 24th August 2014 there will be a race held in Verona, but not any more detail if it will be simply a kermesse or a proper race; I hope it will be the Giro del Veneto but I have little hope.

It is announced that the 2014 Volta a Portugal will have its first stage in Montalegre, wich marks the return of Trás-os-Montes region. It is known that the peloton will climb Serra do Larouco, the third highest mountain in continental Portugal @ 1525m high. It is included in the Peneda/Gerês mountain range.

I am not sure (parrulo perhaps you've climbed this one since its top north of the country?) but i think the roads are not paved in some areas.

Near the flat top there is a wind farm. Is it possible to do a MTF in there? Edit: It'll be a mountain finish.

Also, the organization wants to have the first stage finishing in Alentejo (please do so). Edit: The stage is supposed to start in Algarve.

Wow, we're going to see far more experimentation than I ever anticipated. When they said the south of the country was possibly going to come back I thought they'd just do the Portimão TT, Beja, Vila Viçosa, Castelo Branco route up into the race's traditional heartlands like 2007-8. This could be great.

Edit: misread that pretty terribly! I read "Montalegre" as "Portalegre" and thought that that, and the news about Larouco, were two separate pieces of news. Portalegre would allow for a really great hilly stage south of where the race typically goes, so I jumped the gun - re-reading it and remembering where Montalegre is, I facepalmed.

Wow that's great news. Montalegre is a beautiful place, it can be a great medium-high mountain stage. I hope they come from Gêres, throw the dams, perhaps including Lindoso, Leonte, etc... It's cool to finally get something other than Torre and Senhora da Graça.

The winner of the 2013 Volta a Portugal, Alejandro Marque, tests positive. As a result, he will not ride for Movistar in 2014.

It is confirmed am I right? Apparently he tested positive during the Volta...

:uberfacepalm:

As I say I am much happier that their are positives than none at all as someone will always cheat and if their not been caught then the testing isn't working
