Bad news for Vanmarcke, esp for Roubaix.

Belkin still has some decent cobbled domstiques for Vanmarcke, like Tjallingi and Wynants. Boom was going to be a protected rider too I guess, so it's not like he would've been much help for Vanmarcke, I think......

In Diario de Navarra, Javier Guillén describes the Irati Xtrem cyclotourist event as being "ideal for a Vuelta route", Ochagavía said to be interested in hosting. It takes in some of the toughest climbs in France, however the descents could be problematic. It's probably good for the Vuelta to look at them because it's more likely that could use the roads than the Tour's caravan.

This is the profile of Irati Xtrem, which seems very, well, un-Vuelta-like. But potentially epic.

recorrido_irati_xtrem.jpg

Climbs:
Alto Jaurrieta (4,4km @ 5,9%)
Alto de Azpegi (3km @ 7,3%)
Errozate (10,1km @ 9,6%)
Col de Sourzay (7,4km @ 3,8%)
Col de Bagargui/Alto de Irati (6km @ 5,0%)
Puerto de Larrau (14,8km @ 8,1%)

Presumably if this WAS going to be used in La Vuelta they'd need to start somewhere like Pamplona and go North into France and around to Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port. I mean, ideally this would be via Roncesvalles south allowing us to do Arnostegi too, but more realistically we'd end up with Urkiaga and nothing else, or maybe Monte Saioa/Artesiaga and Izpegi. Ochagavía seems pretty small for a host town but then you never know.

It would certainly be something out of the ordinary for La Vuelta anyway. I couldn't fault it.

Netapp should be there instead one of these teams. Probably Cofidis. Can't understand that.

Cofidis sponsors the Vuelta so their inclusion is pretty much a given. They deserve a bit of goodwill too, Moncoutie animated the Vuelta for years.

Ok then, instead of IAM or MTN. Moncoutie ended career in 2012.

Well it's about time they got a GT invite. Good job to the Vuelta for giving MTN a wildcard. :)
