You keep bringing up quotes from a book written 5 years ago when Colombians weren't thought to be be as good as they are today. Although today they are still only credited as good mountain men and not in the melee of sprint finishes which is all he's concerned about.

It's not about good or not, it's about fitting in the peloton. Clearly, Colombians have a long history in cycling so if Cavendish calls this nationality out based on some bull**** reason I'm entitled to call him a xenophobic bigot ain't I?

Must be quite weird for him being teammates with one of the 'Colombian superstars'.
Surely he won't claim that Uran "doesn't have the skills" to ride in the European peloton. Not to mention a guy like Quintana.

Well... guess why Uran doesn't ride the Tour and why Cavendish didn't ride the Giro.

Cavendish is a xenophobic bigot.

He's obviously such a xenophobic bigot that it really went against all his beliefs when his girlfriend of nearly a year was Fiorella Migliore from Paraguay.

Do I give a ****? Nope. If one writes off all riders coming from a certain nation as inferior, one can expect me calling him out.

This reasoning goes out the window seeing as they both rode the Giro together with Henao while at Sky

Greg Henderson apologises to Cavendish for getting it wrong

@Greghenderson1: Sorry @MarkCavendish. I got it wrong. I shouldn't have reacted publicly w/o checking with you that the msg was real. #holdmyhandsup

Not really, no, because a xenophobe would be prejudiced against every nationality other than his own. He seems to get on well enough with his Belgian employers, Italian and Australian team-mates etc. He might have made unwise generalisations: it is equally unwise to extrapolate from one piece of behaviour to a person's personality.

He also punched Soler because he dared to interfere with the sprint (i.e. stay out of trouble till the last 3km).

Soler was my favourite cyclist and I certainly don't approve of punching other riders, but I am not remotely surprised that sprinters would be less than happy about him hanging around a bunch sprint.

Fair enough. I heard Greg is not liked by many in peleton.

Greg's actually quite popular. Cav and Froome on the other hand, are somewhat... acquired tastes. Cav lost a lot of respect after spitting on Haussler while he was on the ground after a crash Cav caused. That and punching Soler in the back of the head for daring to hold his position 3km out from a sprint.

I'll put it this way - How many of Cav's old HTC teammates went to Sky? EBH, Pate, Eisel, Rogers and?

How many have/had no problem being at Lotto even though Henderson is there? Hansen, Griepel, Sieberg, Bak, Monfort, Dockx, Reynes... ;)

But Froome says it, therefore it's true

I don't join a team because their is a single rider who I like or don't like. It is because of financials, team-goals and what they can do for me. And Sky or Lotto could not take everybody after the end of HTC. So your argument is invalid.

I'd have thought "most riders have no strong opinion about some random minor sprinter" is more likely than mass hatred.

Yep, that's the most likely situation. He does seem fairly popular amongst his teammates at Lotto if you look at their tweets, etc though.

It just seems he didn't fit in with some people at Sky.

I'm guessing this will be pleasant news for most of you:
"the Inner Ring ‏@inrng 3 min
New UCI rule coming which will cap maximum team size per race at 8 riders. In practical terms teams will have one less rider in a grand tour"

I will keep whinning to have 7 riders per team:p

We can do better. 3 riders per team. And just add teams to get the right number of rider. Teams get their lead rider, 2 helpers, and that's it!

Picturing all the GTs Contador would've ridden with only Jesus and Noval for help :D

stupid decision. well at least the domestiques will have to step up big time, no more weak links in teams. everyone has to be at 120% if they want to control a race

http://www.netapp-endura.com/en/new...nsor-for-team-netapp-endura-starting-in-2015/

Netapp-endura lost both netapp (leaving cycling) and endura (other partnerships in the sport) as neither want to extend with them.

They have however secured backing from a German company that will see them through till 2019, and they will be unveiled on the first rest day at the Tour

Just thought another German team will end. After Telekom, Gerolsteiner, Milram and Wiesenhof there are not many teams left. It is just said what the boycott of the media has done to German cycling: no (or very limited) coverage of the races, no sponsors, no teams, lesser talents come through, ... it is a vicious cycle. :(
