No offence to anyone but wouldn't all this have been better in the lesser known results thread?

I was at the race and saw Gilbert at the start and the finish. He was more than happy to have photos taken before the race although less so at the finish. Sometimes I think fans expect too much after the races as riders are tired , have to get warm, do interviews etc. I rarely try to approach them then other than to say well done etc. Most of the riders seemed pretty accommodating to me in Murcia city at the finish. However I would say that quite often the non Spanish speaking riders can get annoyed with Spanish fans I remember Mark Cavendish - ok not necessarily a good example - calling one guy a f*****g W****r at the start last year when he was trying to get a photograph.

I know it's not a great race, but when is this year's Abu Dhabi Tour? The UCI calendar only has information about last year's race, and it isn't on the Asia or World Tour calendars. The RCS website only refers to last year's, and the race's Twitter page tweets every couple of days, but only to post photos from last year or pointless facts about it, and the race's website appears not to have been updated since October. Maybe I was just imagining things but I thought for some reason that this year it was going to be brought forward to fit in with the Tours of Dubai, Qatar and Oman. And if that isn't the case, wouldn't it be the perfect warmup race for the World Championships? Even if there was some holdup over the dates in the course of RCS applying for the race to go WorldTour or something like that, surely there'd be some kind of indication the race still exists and will be held again at some point?!

I think it takes place after the last WT event (in this case the World Champs in Qatar) and therefore is part of the 2017 calendar. New UCI rule.

in 2015 it was October 8 to 11
since the Qatar Worlds are on Oct 16, it can be run the following week-end

It could clash with the Japan Cup? (no news about the date)

so the new World Champion could race in his new jersey either in Abu-Dhabi (if they run the race) or Japan Cup (if his team is planning to travel there)

or Saitama Criterium :D

Giant won't ride the Omloop due to the accident

but they will ride Kuurne the next day. weird anyway. they'd have to send team to Belgium anyway. wise decision would've been not race there, and just send a team for the 2 French races Ardeche and Drome

 Bahrain!? Riis ain't ashamed of anything. He really is the cancer of cycling and this time around he's bringing AIDS straight with him.
