If they put the road races in the beginning... then it'll be a pretty short trip. Would be more complicated if the Super Worlds was in New Zealand.

It's already known that the Vuelta will be two or three weeks later. That's why I said he could do Tour-WC-Vuelta next year. Although it might be too tough, for that he'd have less races before the Tour.

UCI director Peter Van den Abeele just said 2028 Worlds will be completely flat. No artificial hills or anything. It will be one for sprinters.

I think it was said long ago that for some reason, UCI wanted two consecutive flat races in 2028 and 2029.

Which is cycling's biggest problem. How can anyone want this specifically?

Why did we have Algarve, Ruta del Sol, and UAE Tour in the same week, and now a week of nothing until Omloop? Is that due to tradition, or just UCI that wants to have the "prep" races all completely finished before the "real" start of the season at Omloop?

Could very well be, I guess.
If the races all want to end on Sunday, and also want to attract the riders doing the opening weekend, it could get... complicated.

Sure but Algarve and Ruta Del Sol are both 5 stages. Could easily start on Saturday and finish on Wednesday. I'm just annoyed there's no cycling to watch during the day for a week

It's definitely not tradition, UAE Tour overlapped until two years ago, Gran Camiño overlapped until last year.

We also have the Ardèche and Drôme races on the weekend with almost every WT team there, so that's already a double schedule for most of the WT teams on the weekend. And then there is also Rwanda which is running right now, the returning Giro di Sardegna which has taken Gran Camiño's spot and starts on Wednesday, and two newly-1.1 Greek one-day races on the weekend. Don't think this is a week of nothing at all, in fact five overlapping pro races on both weekend days is up there with the busiest of the season - and it's reflected by both Rwanda and the Greek races having really weak fields. If anything, this week needs races moved out of it.

Yeah, but if the organisers want their races to end on Sunday...

Every race ever prefers to end on the weekend.

Also, Sardegna not having a startlist yet means nothing other than that it's an Italian race. Emilia, Bernocchi and Tre Valli at the end of the year also don't have startlists with 24 hours to go and those are reasonably big races.

i dont think theres too many races , its no issue to have five on the same day when most are small ones

if murcia expands , itd make sense to move jaen to after rds ( tuesday or wednesday )

Do races get crammed in together with others because they're small or do races become small because they get crammed in with too many other races? The decline of Milano-Torino after it got moved to the spring (at the request of RCS, I still can't get over that) tells me the latter is also true.

i think its more bottom up than top down

races seek spots that make sense locally ( most of the time ) . i dont think rwanda nor sardegna want a different spot

Tour of Oman used to be the same week as Algarve and andalucia before it got moved earlier. It's always been a busy week for racing.

I don't like big changes to the calendar. There is enough racing on this week - especially towards the weekend.

We don't have to many races.. You can both complain about cycling being boring because Pogacar and Van der Poel winning everything and then want fewer races. Multiple races make space for new riders to compete for wins.

I don't think we have too many races. I think I would've liked to see Algarve or Ruta Del Sol starting on Saturday and finishing on Wednesday. Just so they are spread out a bit more.

2026 Dutch Nationals will take place in Nijmegen, with a 10km circuit including de Oude Holleweg (the hardest climb in the Netherlands outside of South Limburg) and the van Randwijckweg- . Finish is supposed to be in Kwakkenberg, very close to the top of the Oude Holleweg.

Should normally be the hardest course for the Dutch nationals, and no chance a sprinter wins this time. Van der Poel obviously a massive favorite if he shows up.

Basically it's the finish the Giro should have taken in 2016 but they didn't.

I would think all the classic riders who’ve been riding a “southern campaign” that last several weeks would want more than two days between finishing those races (if they ended on a Wed). Finishing Wed would still leave enough time for transfer day and they’ll want at least one full day (if not two) out riding cobbled sections in preparation for Omloop. But I can see how teams and riders would like more time in between. But the bigger factor is still the other race organizers want to finish on the weekend.

I think Berg en Dal is a hilarious name for a place. Especially in one of the flattest countries in the world.

Sure, then ride the other race that starts earlier. But riders like Lipowitz, Almeida, Seixas, Ayuso, they aren't riding OML and KBK, so wouldn't be a problem for them and many others
