No worries. El Pistrollero has already assured us that Cancellara suffered a "minor injury" and will be back in no time.

He also added that he will be going to rehabilitation center in Biarritz where last year his teammate (?) managed to overcome similar injury in three weeks. Hopefully everything goes well for him and he can start in Tour. But yeah, terrible season so far. :(

It looks like a bunch of Irish Continental level riders won't get to ride the Ras this year. The Ras functions as a kind of stage race national championships, with usually pretty much all of the Conti riders plus all the top domestic amateurs involved.

The UCI has refused to give the Ras an exception to the rules to allow Cycling Ireland to field a national team which includes riders not selected for their trade team if the trade team is sending a squad. These rules do actually exist for a sensible purpose, to prevent riders having a conflict of interest.

Unfortunately, five (ie close to half) of the Irish Conti riders are on the An Post team, and it seems hard to imagine more than one or two of them making the squad. The Ras is pretty central to the team's season and on this years form, their best performing riders have been Bagdonas, McNally, Vanbilsen and Eeckhout. It's also by no means guaranteed that the Irish riders on the British Conti teams will make their squads.

The net result is that it's quite likely that there'll be little or no local GC interest in the race, unless perhaps the Asian based RTS riders perform unexpectedly well. The domestic amateurs are hopelessly outmatched nowadays with a whole bunch of good Conti teams serious about winning.

I'm not normally nationalistic about bike racing at all, but the Ras thrives while races like the Tour of Ireland died precisely because of the local interest.

then don't make it an uci race. irish ct riders suck for the most part so when it becomes an uci race. ct teams from other countries will ride and they will beat the irish there. if a race dies because no local riders can win it, it shouldn't even exist as an international race

I do not understand what are you trying say here? Cofidis maybe bad (or not) but how it is connected to Taaramae´s broken arm?

I mean before he had this disease and was back on the bike immediately. now he breaks his arm and he is send to revalidation so he returns quicker then normal procedure. that is just very bad for a rider. cofidis don't care for their riders. he simply must ride the tour at all costs. that's what matters to them. taaramae should forget about the tour and try for a good vuelta or something and cofidis is to blame for having a s*** roster and not taaramae

Taaramae himself wanted to ride Castilla and actually had to convice the team, not other way around. To say that Cofidis do not care for their riders maybe true sometimes, but not in this case.

The Ras is in no immediate danger of dying. Nor does it need a local winner to stay popular. But in the longer run, it would help if there were actually some decent local riders in the race. The best Irish riders already don't race it because it's too small for their teams or their ambitions. It wouldn't be good for the race if the next tier of local riders are also absent.

As for the Irish CT riders sucking, they are a mixed bunch. Most of them are competent CT level domestiques and are unlikely to be much more. A few of them, like Bennett or English, have a chance of developing beyond that.

Riccardo Riccò banned for 12 years.

Fränk Schleck pays the blood doping doctor Eufemiano Fuentes and get 0 years, and still rides (!!!).

What a wonderful sport.

it would be hilarious if millar said. no thanks.

Millar has said that he would not go even if it is overturned, however I do not believe him to be particularly principled about such things and would likely change his mind.

"I missed that window. I think I'll leave it to the good guys."

And Wiggins?;)

Wiggins does not think he should be allowed to return.

"To have Dave in the team purely from a performance point of view, it would be fantastic ../.. It would take the pressure off me having to do a massive job, because I can think about the time trial../..But from a moral point of view he should never be able to do the Olympics again."
