They’re gonna be riders who want to make this race harder in the hill zone. The run-in and the steep part of the Kemmel will be hard enough if the good riders are pushing the front. I’m thinking Jorgenson and Pedersen will test the legs. Get rid of the pure sprinters.
Depends on whether or not Visma and Trek can make a selection without Merlier and Philipsen.

Pedersen strong. Philipsen really good in front. A lot of tired faces already.
Magnier is there.

Gonna be a group of 25 left from the peloton.
Even more. Groups coming back already.

Philipsen looks on a mighty strong day again.

Laurenz Rex in that direction?
Or "Laurenz Rex, you have to go that way!"?
Did he have a crash where he went off road?

1st group stopped riding completely and allowed the Philipsen group to get back
They rode hard but they only ever got a 20s gap and it was just four Trek riders, including both Pedersen and Milan. I think the effort was there but the elastic never really snapped with the second group so they relaxed a bit.

Don't think it will snap now.

It almost always does. The bend on that descent is really slow, so if you're sitting in 50th position you're more than half a minute behind the front. That deficit doesn't magically disappear when they reach the straight stretches.

The composition is not good.
