Why are the other teams pushing that split with MvdP and Philipsen being allowed to sit back? Turner and Küng are pushing...probably best to try to create a new break. and anticipate.

Motorpacing them back...
I think there's also the issue that no really big names are in the second group, and the peloton has a lot more teammates. Lidl and Wanty have three riders, but even for them it doesn't make too much sense to ride hard with 100km to go. Peloton has much more to lose than front groip had to gain, and as long as they kept riding it was always possible they'd bridge back.

no alpecin guy is taking one turn at the front... it's already hard to get excited if the favourite is so clear and it will be probably a clear win but why do the other teams not even try to make it a race. Van Poppel oushing on why? Meeus is in Narnia after the Kemmelberg anyway.

I love how its basically a national sport now to bash Quickstep for being a rubbish classics team.
How's even their best rider? Yves Lampaert? Pathetic display

A far cry from the years of Tommeke, Devolder, Terpstra, Gilbert, Stybar etc. And even just recently with Asgreen and Alaf.

G1 needed to put in 15 minutes of effort to put most/all of G2 out of contention, and didn't. Could be a very expensive bout of profiteering over taking responsibility.

If Judd Trump can finish off Ding here in the snooker on Eurosport 1 maybe the "Home of Cycling" (lol) could put Gent-Wevelgem on in it's place?
Update: Trump won about 20 mins ago but they haven't even given him the trophy yet since they've been introducing just about everyone in the arena to have their minute on tv and the Home of Cycling doesn't want to miss a minute of this closing ceremony

Who in the second group can really challenge, though? If you're Lidl, is it worth burning up your three best cards to still have all your main competitors there?

De Lie, Mohoric, Girmay, Matthews...

And regardless of who's behind, now you need to put a lot of energy into positioning for the Kemmelberg, with the risk of being out of position.
