What they should have been doing for the last 15-20km.
I can see why they tried. With Pedersen and Stuyven controlling in the wheels. Make Mathieu work for it.
But they have to stay together after the next Kemmel.

Only 2 men riding in the peloton.

But they decimated the group because of his attack and their riding, instead of working to gain more time.

Peloton at big advantage either way now to bring this home in the end.

Pithie could definitely win a sprint from this group. It’s much better for him if they stay away than if they sit up and he has to sprint against Philipsen and Kooij
Pithie has 0 hope of surviving two more Kemmels when he's emptying himself before they've even gone up the first of those two.

Where, through bad luck but possibly turning into good luck later on, they have Stuyven

Intermarché doing what they always do. Absolutely nothing and hoping others do it for them. They have like 5 riders in that group and are just sitting there. It's ridiculous.
They have most of the team there...and it's like the front of the peloton is radioactive or something...stupid stupid stupid

Saving their legs for the next 20km, then seeing what the situation is for the final 30-40km.

If it would be anyone else then MvdP (ok van Aert or Pogacar) then I would say too much energy already spent to bring it home solo after the next two Kemmels... but yeah thats the time we live in. 40 sec to the peleton but they will be stopped by the Lidl-Trek and Alpecin block after the next hills.

That's called modern racing. Almost all races is riding for podium, not a win
And when someone doesn’t ride he’s a wheelsucker. It’s still 55km.
I love to see a 21year old racing for top 4 instead of having less chance in a peloton.
