If I was Bjarne, I'd pawn my mother and on top of that generate and sell various derivatives out of the initial mommy deal to get Cobo, Menchov and Duarte. Heck I'd bet against Bertie walking!

That is, assuming Menchov is no more toxic than he has been hitherto and that Bjarne hasn't already securitized his mommy.

That's the problem: it's a prep race. It doesn't matter that the field is stronger than in the Giro. That's besides the point.

Those climbers will go for the win in the Vuelta. It might be preparation for the WC also, but they will ride it hard. This doesn't change the fact that there are less topnames if the WC has a flat course.
It's the smallest of the 3 and I can't see that changing. Is that a problem?

I agree with Ryo, I just don't see how anyone could think Geox 'pulled out' today... seems like there must be a bigger back story (sorry guy who tried to insult everyone who thought something was going on by pointing out their post counts, does 700 in 2.5 years suggest I have enough of a life to speculate?)... Obviously something was up when they didn't fill out the paperwork 3 weeks ago. I could imagine the most likely scenario, knowing what I know of Gianetti, UCI politics, etc that they said they were going to pull out, he tried to assure them he'd sign Cobo etc so they'd get enough points to be guaranteed WT, told the team it wouldn't be a problem, dragged everyone crossing their fingers to the last minute and then in the end they didn't have enough evidence to guarantee WT so Geox said 'sorry, no way'. In other words, Gianetti plays both sides of the fence, no one in Geox trusts him, no one in UCI trusts him, so the cards are stacked against the team.

Either way, it's a shame as the team was interested in really exciting talent, and was one of my favourites to follow, Gianetti aside. And it's a shame that this whole debacle does nothing to counter the stereotype of Italian business dealings in cycling (and more generally) as shady and full of backstabbing intrigue.

Anyone think Noe G is gonna get a ride with a team higher than Conti level next year?

I think even Gianetti will take offence to that (seeing as though he is Swiss and not Italian) :p

It was wrong since the beginning; Geox choosed the wrong team (or better to say management) to sponsor.

I'd take 1 and 5 any day.

as a team you said best team - so if we look at not just the best placed rider but the top 2 Sky did better as a team.

1st is really all that counts but as the top 2 riders Sky performed better, Cobo won sure but the 2nd rider was 5th

Since when "better team" = "top 2 guys in the team"?

I mean, at least you could have tried to use Sutton's win to make your point, but as it is it's quite silly.

cycling quotient points disagree as I think they should

rabo have spots. but i doubt they want to expand anymore on thier current team.

ughh. Please go away.
Cobo was always very talented, your ignorance shouldn't = suspicious.

I like how cobo is the suspicious guy, while he had shown signs of real climbing ability and GT contention.

it'ds ridiuclous indeed. but never mind. 90% of the forum hasn't got a clue about cycling. cobo was on par with contador pretty much in talent. but nobody knows that. the true story of why cobo was so inconsistant is much sadder than doping

Didn't he (Cobo) want to be a chef or some sort of cook rather than a cyclist?

yes, he wanted to retire a couple of times. first time being after 2008 tour when ricco was caught I think, also when he was at movistar he was so desilusionises that he didn't touch his bike for months until team trainign with geox...

Its questionable status as a GT is a problem, IMO. It's essentially a 2-week affair, because the organizers obviously want it to be a prep race first and foremost.

Due to the fact that karlboss said 1st and 5th made Geox the best team at the Vuelta.

So I used the same numbers for the discussion so not silly using the 2 if you read all posts.

It is not very polite to gloat, but I told you so during the Vuelta that rumours were going around that Geox was pulling out. When I referenced Wuyts saying so on Belgian television, most of the posters in ths thread said Wuyts was full of sh*t. Clearly he wasn't!

Been one of the worst years for sponsor bailouts that I can remember.
Very depressing.
Another casualty of Pat's global expansion vision, or was it just inevitable?
what the hell does that have to do with it. here's a hint global crisis?

Terrible moment for cycling, ( grim situation ) that sponsors leave successful teams.

I do not want Cobo or Menchov going to SBS and being subverted into Contadors' superdomestiques. They could join Lotto. I wonder where rides like Duarte and Fuente shall go. They could be good climbers to get.

How likely would it be for Cobo to join Saxo, without doing as badly as on Caisse?? Or in other words, what does it take for Cobo to have success at a new team??

cobo need a very good mentor that understand him like matxin, not gianetti, reason cobo had succes was always matxin that understand him and motivate him, also he need to be in team with other strong contenders als he had in saunier with piepoli and ricco, contador could be perfect

Here's a hint: Geox going to put even more money in F1 next year. Economic crisis my ass.

geox out of cycling has nothing to do with f1. but with gianetti. geox are a company making large profits despite crisis. what new sport is htc sponsoring next year? or is becca going to fund?
