The only GT that suits him is the Tour. Giro and Vuelta are far to explosive and steep gradients most of the time.

No way he'll ever be Tour captain for SKY or beat any of the big GT guys over 3 weeks. He's fine for one week races with a TT in it.

Yea, well...thats not the plan of Sky. G is British, a popular guy in media and Dave will do anything he can to win Tour with him.

Most Brits dont care about anything outside Tour so G focusing on Tour and one week stage is his future, the same fashion Wiggins and Froome have done for past few years. But instead of him doing other GT's , he probably will do more classics alongside. Anyway, the plan of Sky is clear that after Froome is done, G is the next guy in line, and then after him who knows, probably X/Y Yates.

Hmm, but there's only one year between G. Thomas and Froome, so i'm not really sure it's going to add up. Froome could easily go at the same level for another 2-4 years, and we don't know if G. Thomas can reach Froomes level. He seems more like a Wiggins to me.

Not true, the viewing figures for the Vuelta last year were only slightly below that of the tour and the classics draw big audiences nowadays.

He was super strong in San Remo last year but sadly it seemed like his role was softening up everyone for swift, hopefully he is allowed his head this year, though I thought he was only meant to be riding Flanders.

Maybe on Eurosport, but what about total British viewing figures of the Tour (ie including other channels) vs the Vuelta?

Around 600,000 to a million throughout the race on ITV4.

I've £5 to win at 20 - 1 for Geraint? Ok, a Cancellara wattage fest would be amazing, and would make my day like 2013 but as an outside bet, maybe?

I just don't think you go from suffering badly in Catalunya (Thomas was dropped on the penultimate climb on the Queen stage) to winning Flanders nine days later. He says he's healthy now but unsure about his fitness after taking some days of rest. I actually think he'll be nowhere today and probably be the 4th best Sky rider.
