Is Basso riding? I only ask as I remember reading a quote about him not wanting to go unless he was in good shape, last night on camera he looked...chubby, at least by basso standards. So that got me thinking maybe he is thinking tour again as he won't be in form when the giro comes around.

I still believe that the 18 WT teams getting an automatic invite is ridiculous. It should be done, for example, for the top 10 WT teams getting in automatically and then pick 12 out of 15 teams ranked from 11 to 25 in the previous season.

Basso is having a disastrous season so far. Crashed out of every race he entered.
You remember well, he will only ride the Giro is he has the feeling that he is capable of going for the win. So far his preparation is horrible so he's not feeling good. Last think I heard he was riding Trentino, but I don't think he is there? Is he? I haven't been able to follow Trentino at all unfortunately.
And he will ride Romandie and after that he will decide wether he will ride the Giro.

He is doing Trentino. Finished 28th yesterday at about 5 minutes from the winner.

At the start of the climb the first 3 guys mistook road due to the tv motorcycle; they were Agnoli, Di Luca and Basso.
So I wouldnt consider yesterday result at all.

According to Tuttobici, there's rumors that even the Maglia Ciclamino (the sprinter's) might change colors if Montezemolo come in as sponsor with his high speed train's company; the color would be red as the train.

BMC's team for the Giro Pinotti, Ballan, Hushovd, Phinney, Mauro Santambrogio, Ivan Santaromita, Mathias Frank, Johan Tschoop and Danilo Wyss.
Pinotti will be the leader for the GC.
Ballan will be the man for the breaks.
Phinney and Hushovd will be aiming for the prologue.
I can see phinney winning the prologue though. Not a bad team for the TTT with Hushovd, Ballan, Pinotti and Phinney. With nearly the same riders in trentino they should work well together. The weak links are Mauro and Tschopp I guess.

Considering their team it's ok. Maybe they could have sent a sprinter like Henderson or even Greipel, but that's about it.

this team is so bad I can't describe it. what a disgrace to send this to the giro. the wt should be like 12 or 14 teams and all the rest pct. only few teams have a worthwhile selection for 3 gt's in a year
