New rumour for 2014 (no thread yet so I´ll post it here): finish on Zoncolan with a double climb: first through Sutrio, then through Ovaro.

Am I missing something here? Does this mean they´ll descend down the Ovaro side first? That is beyond dangerous.

EDIT: I read the source of the rumour. If my Italian isn´t too rusty, they say they´ll climb each side in a different stage, both stages being separated by the rest day? Or are they saying they´ll climb the Zoncolan twice in one stage, then rest day, then the Pordenonese stage?

ANTEPRIMA GIRO.

Quite impossible in reality. The narrow tunnels at the top of the Zonc prevent cars to follow the riders... same problem of Crostis.

nowadays these sissies will again make up something about extreme complexity of zonс descent.

Yes, they're saying two different stages :D

Don't think that would be a bad news, either side you do the Galibier coming from Italy you have a lot of valley kilometer between the start of the Galibier and the previous climb.

but still the ascent is harder than from the side passed in 2011 as far as i see this. also they could again ride it via izoard.

in fact, no giro climbs will surprise us any longer. without attackers, all will be overcome like this year's passo pampego

 no giro climbs? Let's say no climbs then.
Anyway there will be Nibali so at least one will attack ;)
Also, I find pretty amusing that one bad Giro is enough to get such depression.

Speaking of Crostis, will they ever actually use it? Also any idea of when me might see the climb pozzo won in trentino this year, or even if the giro will ever do Scanuppia.

Scanuppia is 1) too hard and 2) the road would need to be resurfaced.

I could see the Giro organisers using Punta Veleno. It's strikingly similar to the Zoncolan anyway.

About Crostis... when riders grow a pair perhaps.

Indeed Scanuppia is far from being a GT climb right now. I would never use it.
Punta Veleno is interesting though. Might be used as a pass too.

please no, let's be serious. punta veleno, zoncolan, bola del mundo and so on are already enough. steeper climbs would be ridicolous

I hate steep climbs. I remember this interview in het Nieuwsblad with Michele Aquarone and he said he wanted to lure big stars to his Giro like Philippe Gilbert, Tom Boonen, Fabian Cancellara, Thor Hushovd(I know he was there this year, but we all know why), Alessandro Ballan, etc

It's a shame most classic stars skip the Giro. It's been since 2009 Phil started at the Giro and Boonen/Cancellara never even started there. And Cancellara is half Italian!

Perhaps with a few tweaks in the Giro design more of these type of cyclists would come... Even if it's only for a week or two.

edit: Cancellara did start there, but gave up both times. Kinda forgot how he dropped out just before the hard time trial in 2009 which was won by Menchov. Don't remember anything from him in 2007 though.

New rumour by Tuttosport:
Stage 13 will be Busseto - Cherasco, then Cervere - Monte Jafferau and Cesana - Galibier. That would mean an enormous transfer from Treviso and Busseto, so I don't really trust this. But Tuttosport is always pretty reliable when it comes to hack the Giro route. According to the same article, after Galibier there would NOT be a rest day, but other two stages: Valloire - Ivrea and Castello Di Agilé - Bergamo.
The article then adds that there won't be 2 ITTs :(
And Vicenza will be involved in the third week.
The route would then look like this.

1 Napoli - Napoli [flat] (Napoli is official. Still not clear if TTT or road stage)
2 Ischia TTT ****(circuit if Napoli is TTT)
