Yep. Another confirmation that the silly UCI rules are worth nothing. They should just cancel everything and preserve paper (or bytes).

Shame they do it over BS like this rather than throw out WT teams that dont bother turning up decent teams in favour of Italian continental teams.

Loving all those descent finishes.
change glasses :p
Btw there's still hope to have one. There are many different rumours and it looks like the third rest day fact is being exploited by RCS to shuffle up the route hugely. The first week is still obscure, and the MTT of stage 19 has still a huge question mark. It could even be a road stage. Right now I can say the route looks a lot less clear than it was a week ago

Problem is, most of those MTFs are to places that can't be descended. Piandelfalco can, but then where would they finish, as Fanano's probably not big enough and Pavullo would kind of be off another climb. Oropa can be descended and could finish in Biella, but would then be less likely to be a tribute stage or as historically noteworthy. Montecampione, Martell, Pannarotta and Kronplatz are all one-way up only.

The lack of Fauniera and Sampeyre in the past 10 years has been quite disappointing. But the money's in Northern Piemonte rather than Southern Piemonte :(
looks like it. In addition, the state of the road of Fauniera is horrible afaik. They need to resurface it, and that means more money than usual.

so, less than a week to the presentation and there is just one stage no one knows about, which is stage 6. Another dubious stage is stage 10, which I don't know where it'll finish. All the rest is pretty much sure (stage 19 is still foggy). Stage 9 could even finish all the way up to the Monte Cimone.

Oh im already to late :p

Looks like a nice route!
Still too early to tell. Need the routes first!
Anyway, backloaded as always. And with those last two terrible mountain stages it'll be hard not to be afraid of wasting a single drop of unnecessary energy. On the bright side, the first week looks interesting, with Montecassino, Carpegna (this stage might even be the best of the Giro, on paper) and Passo del Lupo.

I count 9 [flat] and [flat/hilly] stages. How many (semi) sprinters' stages does the Giro need?
I have no idea of the Irish stages so I can't tell. In Italy, the sprinters' stages will be:
Stage 4 (whatever it is)
[Stage 5 will be an uphill sprint, even though mostly flat, so drop that.]
Stage 7, to Foligno, might be either a sprint (most likely) or a breakaway stage.
Stage 10 should be pan flat.
Stage 11 should be a sprint but with big chances for the breakaway.
Stage 13 will be flat.
Stage 17 will be flat but with a wall at 20 kms to the end.

So it's from 4 to 6 sprints in Italy.

Sure, I'll drop stage 5, but then again I didn't include stage 7...

You also didn't include Trieste, for some reason. All but guaranteed bunch sprint, that one.

The Irish road stages finish in (flat) cities. There are hills nearby, sure, but two (reduced?) bunch sprints is by far the most likely outcome, IMO. I expect at least 7 (reduced) bunch sprints, unless the spinters' teams are ridiculously weak (and Cav doesn't ride)

yeah I forgot about Trieste
I think one of the Irish stages will feature some difficulty.
In stage 7 and 11 (actually also in stage 13) there's plenty of room to avoid the sprint, but it all comes down to what route they'll choose.
