Astonished by Orica. They have very few mountain domestiques yet they somehow manage to survive til the last climb

Absolutely no surprise that guys who were spent in the break (Amador, Plaza) aren't gaining time on the leaders.

All of them got dropped. Commentators suggested they waited, but they simply got dropped.

Amador and Anacona went too slow and allowed Tom back. Damn.

Or Dumoulin went too fast ;)
Dumoulin brought the others with him as well, so it's more likely that the domestiques went too slow.
Quintana didnt have the balls to go for it alone.

Don't see dumoulin losing much. It is simply the most efficient to just TT up the climbs, and this becomes more pronounced in the era of powermeters as long as the chaser does not panic and just keeps pushing the w/kg target programmed to his computer.

Exactly, Sky had to set a hard tempo in the break because the gap was only 2 minutes. They were already cooked when Quintana attacked and that's why the gap has remained around 40-45s

Quintana would have been caught if he went alone. I know the idea is appealing and romantic, but getting caught is the realistic outcome.
