Not hoping that he break will make it unless its a huge one with pretty big names. I want to see the peloton and the best riders in the Giro duke it out in the finale, a very tricke one, with many possible winners! These stages are always great, the Giro of 2015 had a boatload of tem (many of tem harder).

On the other hand, I wouldnt mind too much that a break makes it and some of the riders take the Maglia Rosa with 5-10 minutes just to shake the race up a bit. It has been too stale so far this year, unfortunately - hopefully the good racing awaits on the mainland.

a break can take it and you can still see the favorites duking it out in the finale, just out of sheer fear of getting stuck : might see a breakaway with 5mn advance but a final 15 ks at crazy speed from the bunch and leaders.

How many points for the maglia ciclamino can Stuyven pick up in the intermediate sprints?

Cannondale still not able to send someone in the break...

Today is not the typical break away stage. And they have some good cards to play in the finale.

Some serious horsepower in the break though with Stuyven, Dillier and Pöstlberger.

The tactical naivety of Cannondale continues - No-one in the break which is a chance to stay away - There are s 3 or 4 teams who are real contenders for stage victory - How hard will they work to bring back the break.

Ok nevermind, go Jasper! Agonizingly close to win a similar stage in TdF last year.

Not that close, really... He was caught with 500 metres to go with an ascending finale so he would probably have needed at least 20 seconds more. Go Mads P!

Was that because you interpreted the time gap to Cavendish as the time gap to the peloton? :D

I also feared he would last but in the end he was missing quite a lot and it was not a Tony Martin in the Vuelta like scenario with him being caught in the sprint. More like Jungels in Fleche Wallonne this year.

Cannondale starting the chase when the gap is about 9 minutes. Brilliant tactics by JVaughters.
I think we just troll the living hell out of them and send them a few curricula vitae to apply as their DS, because frankly half of the posters around here would probably do a better job.

Best in break at nearly 17 minutes, sprinters no chance i finale, that just leaves Cannondale to chase it down

Haas has to be the favourite here, but I also see him finding a way to mess it up. If the finale is raced negatively, my pick is for Rui Costa to stick the knife in and slip away.

Agree that the likes of Ulissi, Valverde and Matthews would destroy this finish.

And they would all be destroyed by Sagan. He could probably not have a better finish than this.

They bring a team of riders to get in the breaks ... and then don't get in breaks. What is going on with them.

And Alaphilippe. It's sort of similar to last year's Tour stage two if we want to see who it would suit. Much more unpredictable though.
