Way too many teams with at least a reasonable GC-rider. We thought that was a good thing, but its turning out that too many teams really aren't doing anything because of the modern way to support such a rider.DFA123 said:This Giro is awful so far. They can't even get action on an uphill sprint stage. Too many teams like FDJ, Sunweb and Lotto-NL who are adding nothing to the race, just going all in to try and get a rider into the top 10 on GC.
Exactly. If you have a rider like Dumoulin, Kruijswijk or Pinot, then sure, give them 3 or 4 support riders to help them do well inthe GC. But they haven't done enough to justify having a full team supporting them - it's just killing the race, because there are only about four or five teams interested in a lot of stages.Valv.Piti said:Way too many teams with at least a reasonable GC-rider. Well, each team can justify their choice of course. But the cumulative effect of having so many teams fully backing riders who are probably going to finish somewhere between 3rd and 10th is resulting in really dull flat and medium mountain stages.Ikbengodniet said:DFA123 said:This Giro is awful so far. Yeah absolutely crazy thought by Lotto Jumbo if they have the best man in the race last year in their team.
Indeed. It has been a big problem so far this Giro, especially as GC-contenders only are interested in expanding a minimum of energy each day to get in the front group.HelloDolly said:Agree with Brian Smith and Sean Kelly when saying they feel for some riders in the peloton who get no chance to ride for a stage as all on minding duties all the time for several GC guys.....and how it was different in their day with more riders let off the leash
