Let's be real, if we get a good Zoncolan MTF and a proper tappone in the Dolomites on the next day with Fedaia as the penultimate climb or a Tre Cime MTF having a Fauniera stage in the 3rd week would be almost too much awesomeness.
There are rumours about a Cevinia MTF and if t was a proper mountain stage actally would't mind having Cervinia as the final mountain stage.

Indeed, the rumoured time trials, Zoncolan MTF (no way of messing that up, unless you are using the 'easy' side) and just a good, doesnt have to anything super special but just not something like this year, stage in the Dolomites is great..

Then again can a route be too awesome? I thought we had the tour de france for people who think that way? :D

Please be right. I can't wait to see Tibopino murder everyone on these slopes ;) .

Tibopino on Zoncolan? That will be horrible.
Big climb, long, yes. Absolutely. Like the Reichenbach glacier at the TdS. Yes. Only Quintana can beat him on this...Froome maybe.

Was it the Fauniera descent where the hawk closed freaking 2 minutes on Pantani downhill!?
he was two minutes back at the top, in the valley he ended up one minute in front.
Sad that we don't have much of a footage. The top half was in the fog and by the bottom half Savoldelli had dropped the motorbike that was trying to follow him :D
I saw that live on Rai, it was epic. Although back then i wasn't happy about it as i was a Pantani fan.

short clip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lfYwImKw6R8

Oh, and if they ignore Fauniera because the descent is too "dangerous", they can all go to hell.

Mikel Landani certainly disagrees!

I watched that stage on YouTube a couple of weeks ago, at the top he was 2'38" down and at the end was 45" clear, when he catched the Pantani group in two slight turns he was away.
A rider like Savoldelli in GTs with closed gaps like this year Giro and Tour would have destroyed the field attacking on the descents and gaining minutes.

Big news. A local newspaper claims that the western mountain block will look like this:

??? - Prato Nevoso
Busca - Jafferau (via Finestre and Sestriere)
Susa - ??? (somewhere in Aosta valley)

If it's true, that'd have a ton of implications.

It's not official. But I also don't believe, that a newspaper would publish three maps, that are fake. Well, you never know these days, but that would be a lot of effort for some Attention.

These are preliminary maps buf the graphic it's the one used by RCS and the assessore regionale allo sport confirmed the article so it's a done deal and we can't expect big changes in the definitive route.
Obviusly RCS won't confirm because it's a leak.

Except for that 6-7 billion ppl on this earth can do the profile on C.escalada and make it look prof.

I must still admit I don't the Sicily connection. Better to start in the foot/heal and do a Lago Laceno stage 5-6 followed a proper MTF stage 8-9

EDIT: to do an early MTF like this year is a waste. It didn't work. Only thing that works is to make the GC work harder for it by doing a PLBF or like the Vuelta this year with the VERY INTERESTING Rabassa-Andorra stage. A Diesel climbs gives nothing unless the GC is already shaken up.

Details about the third week ITT: it will be 30 kms long, ending on a 2-3 km climb that brings to Colle Miravalle (just above Rovereto), where there is a war memorial. Same article confirms Zonc on stage 14 and Dolomites on stage 15, with no much information about the latter, besides that it rules out Trentino (so, no Passo Vezzena) and that it'll probably be in Veneto. Stage 17 should start from Arco and head to Lombardy.

the profiles have been made by Italian forumers. The leaked maps are the planimetries. Those do look official and have the initals SDS (Stefano Di Santo, RCS profile guy)

Ofc they can be fake (as everything on the internet), but if so they made an excellent job.

Oh dear - well then I guess Sicily is in - it just doesn't bite on me. Better to use the island as a Grand Departure.
I guess I will have to drown my sorrows - since it is Friday anyway.
