Joking aside it is absolutely chucking it down, awful weather. One of those northern italian may days with genuinely torrential rain.
Giro has been incredibly lucky this year: no rain for the 2 Torino stages, nor for the 2 Garda stages... but in northern Italy it's been raining almost every day since the beginning of the month.
 
Nice trivia from Procyclingstats:

"On this day in 1974.

In stage 7 of the 1974 Giro d'Italia to Chieti, Ugo Colombo went up to race leader José Manuel Fuente, telling him he went up the road to greet some family. He went on to win the stage with a minute ahead, never greeting any family as they lived nowhere near the region."

The riders are wise to that trick now. So no one tries it anymore.
