Ok might be a bit deep but I just don't see why Kooij wouldn't start as this is his first grand tour and he wasn't likely to get another opportunity soon. Especially if there is 2 sprint stages on Wednesday/Friday for him. I'm wondering if it has anything to do with Vingegaard? If Vingegaard can't go to the Tour, they might well bring Kooij to win some stages potentially. So maybe he is dropping out because Vingo can't make the Tour and so he might be riding that and needs to prepare. Is this stupid logic?

Maybe he is sick as the team says...

today's stage is short and easy and there are at least two sprints coming up the next three days. If they planed to take him out, it would make much more sense to do so later on in the week.

no idea about the total numbers, but those sprinters normally wouldn't step off at this point unless they are really sick - which is unusual, at good weather, and this early in the race. So I guess there's something going around in the bunch.
Why is Jakobsen still there? He's fully out of shape!

Or, maybe everyone has just learned that the earlier practice of riders continuing despite being sick weren't that great...
Perhaps. Eisel said Lippowitz was pulled out for safety reason. He could have continued, because he wasn't totally sick. Perhaps older riders push through.

People overthinking this way too much, he's a young guy who can have a long career and he just won a stage. If he picked up a bit of an illness on a rest day there's not reason to compromise his health by making him continue.
If he were going for GC he'd have maybe tried to continue, but there's really no point if you're ill

Visma can't catch a break this season.

Speaking about catching breaks, I think UAE has a good stage to set-up Pogačar fourth stage win in this Giro however I think they will only chase hard if there is someone dangerous in the breakaway otherwise they might allow it to fight for the win with Pogačar doing an attack to win a couple of seconds in the last kilometers.

The final climb is not too steep so this could be a good chance for someone like Ganna or Sheffield.

I think INEOS should take a chance by putting Ganna or Sheffield in the breakaway, and set a high pace on the Camposauro. See who remains of UAE, and bridge the gap with Arensman on Guardia Sanframondi. Try to isolate Pogacar, and see how he responds.

You probably won't break UAE here, but would be good to see how they work.
