It was an obvious joke at Mollema getting 2nd everywhere lately and Uran close to the first but never in the first group.

But yeah, there is a very real chance Mollema will finish podium in Mollema. Just based on his qualities and his form. Dutch or not.
Plus the quality of the field in Lombardia is nowhere near that of the april classics.

Half of them finished their season (like F.Schleck/A.Schleck)
Half of them are not nearly in the shape they had in the beginning (Rodriguez, Nibali)
And the rest is too god damn tired.

So yeah. I stand by what I say, there's a big chance Mollema finishes on the podium
OK, fair enough. It will be interesting to say if any of the potential contenders riding Beijing bring any form back with them.

Do we know what is up with Scarponi?

Now that is a safe bet.

Seriously though, is he ill? Skipping the preparation races in favour of training? Withdrawn because of the Ferrari investigation?

when at the beginning of the year i said that betancourt is a great talent , everybody was smiling.
in his first year as a pro he won a semiclassic with a great palmares and showed on the finestre stage at the end of the giro that he is super strong also in long and difficult climbs.
that are great accomplishment for a 22 years guy: emilia is one of the most selective races in the italian calendar and has a more than decent field; at the giro he was stronger at the end than at the beginning and in the finestre stage he was in the break of the day and he did not fade on the climb, staying with ruyano and finishing 4th, at 22!! in one of the hardest giro ever.
in 2010 girobio he truely destroyed the field , like i have never seen before. the best italian climbers , locatelli and santoro were left at minutes.

if he was english or dutch, there would have been a 20 pages thread on him.

in italy there are rumours that acqua e sapone can fold. i did not heard anything about betancourt next year. sarmiento that his less talented but has a great work ethic and trains a lot for a colombian will go at liquigas, where probably he will pace basso and liquigas in the mountains.

betancourt 1st, uran 3rd, duarte 12th: colombia is coming.

all the colombians i was "hyping" at the beginning of the season, surrounded by skepticism and irony, have had good season so far.
and these rider are all young: they all had to face and to adjust to new situation. next year they will perform better.they will improve .

in utah tour uni-epm astonished everybody, in colorado they did well.

next year quintana and henao will be at movistar and sky: they are both superstrong.
if claudio corti will be able to bring in europe with coldeportes other strong colombians ( beltran, infantino, atapuma, even suarez and osorio, maybe freddy montana or montoya), you will see.

just to know, i am not from colombia.

I'd say Colombian and Dutch hype is pretty evenly matched... there's Ryo for the Colombians and Dekker_T for the Dutchies. Strangely, they're both Dutch.

This is certainly a great win for Betancourt... it's the hardest single day race on the calendar (in terms of the parcours) so to win that as a first year pro is impressive, no matter how you look at it.

and again he will be there or there about at il lombardia.

Or not, seeing as Miche is a Continental team - and thus ineligible for WorldTour races.

i guess it wasn't because noone believed he may become a decent rider but just because riders like Paolini and F.Masciarelli (those who were just below Stefano Garzelli in the team's hierarchy) left Acqua Sapone and instead of them they signed Betancourt (and Napolitano but who cares?). In a long prospect it may work out but for that moment it wasn't an equal replacement...

i have hust seen the on italian tv the final part of the race.
carlos betancourt wasvery impressive in the last climb to san luca.
he did not lost time to the favourites. very impressive.

he has increbible big and muscle legs, like a sprinter or a little like henao or the first cunego.
on the podium his legs looked the double of uran' s legs...

he is not very thin.
in spring at acqua e sapone were worried about him, they thought he was fat.
imho, he started the giro a little overweight., lloking better at the end.

he can easily loose 3 or 4 kgs and still improve in the mountains.
but he has a different morphology than a pure climber: he has these enormous legs, sprinter thighs: he has the power necessary for doing well in the ardennes classics

A performance like that certainly indicates that he should do well in the Ardennes. Columbia certainly seem to be on the rise again :). I think Bertie Uran and TGBM will do well in Lombardy (podium is certainly a possibility).

Maybe this is a silly question, but what is "a Leipheimer" (I guess it's not winning a road race solo ;)) and are there any highlights (there's nothing on cycling fans)?
