Tour de Suisse 2012, overall:

1. [USA] LEIPHEIMER Levi RSH 31h45'02" 240
2. [ITA] CUNEGO Damiano LAM 04" 180
3. [NED] KRUIJSWIJK Steven RAB 01'02" 145
4. [DEN] FUGLSANG Jakob LEO 01'10" 132
5. [NED] MOLLEMA Bauke RAB 02'05" 120
6. [SUI] FRANK Mathias BMC 02'24" 108

;)

But Frank was indeed impressive, not so much in the TT but in the Liechtenstein stage, where he crashed at the bottom of the climb, and came from way back to pass almost everyone and finish 7th. He doesn't seem to hold top form very long though, he was nowhere the rest of the year.

Yes, that is true but in saying that he came off a very hard Giro where he was ill, then he did the Tour de Suisse so it is understandable that he may have faded a bit.

Another Giro climbers' jersey does not look likely:

Didn't he break his collarbone a month ago? He could still come round for the Giro.

Anyway, just caught the race on dailymotion. Good last climb, but do they really need 5 motos for each rider? It kind of ruins the race footage.

You probably forgot some Colombians.

And indeed, if Kreuziger could finish top-10 in last year's Giro, I don't see why the hell not this year.

Is this sarcasm?

Because I've yet to see Colombians getting in the top 10 of the Giro regularly.

Anyone have any idea how much snow there is on Passo Pordoi and whether they're likely to go all the way to the top tomorrow ?

I have no idea, but the decision will be made tomorrow morning as far as I know. So hopefully we won't see a farce like we did in Catalunya and everone will know what's gonna happen on from the start

Even if he does come around he will have to ride for both Cunego and Scarponi.

It's indeed too bad that Pozzovivo is too frail to make it to the mountains of a GT unharmed, but this was a great show. Basso looked quite good to me, on those few images. Maybe he'll do a good Giro after all.

And jeez, do Coldeportes suck so far. But they had a great time during recon, apparently.

looked overweight to me, got me wondering if he'll make the giro. Though after a wrong turn and no doubt riding conservatively 5 minutes down is pretty good.

Super late but I've managed to watch the stage and I only want to say one thing: Smyd to lead Liquigas at the Giro, he's flying this year!
As much as I like Basso, I think he's finished, I would love to be proven wrong but I really don't think he can win the Giro this time.

On Eurosport UK, during the delayed stream of today's stage or during a rerun of yesterday's stage and for whatever it's worth, the commentators mentioned he was still undecided about doing the giro. They said something that his participation will depend on his form and if he doesn't feel good enough, he'd probably opt for the tour de France.

That's what I thought I heard. They also mentioned that they thought he looked a little heavy, so short before the start of the giro.

I honestly agree with theyoungest on this, from the few pics we got of Basso it didn't look like he was struggling with the climb like he was supposed to be doing due to the % but was instead just cruising along getting some racing miles into his legs.

True but he was also dropping 5 minutes as he did it, and he was only shown from a helicopter for for 10 seconds or so. The actual performance I don't think indicates anything one way or the other.

Basso shouldn't be losing time in the first two weeks of the giro, after that, he'll be great

Kreuziger

I do not uderstand why can somebody have doubts about RK will reach Giro´s top 10,this guy will we extremely dangerous this year, very good actual form(still not at his best) and very good team support.Being not on the Giro´s podium will be very big surprise...

Some people don´t realize how good performance he did yesterday, only couple very light „flies“ such as - Pozzovivo 53kg,Szmyd 59kg,Rujano 48kg,Cunego 58kg were in front him during this madly sharp hill, for the 66kg heavy Roman it´s excellent result and time deficit…He just doesn´t like those sharps ones like yesterday or Zoncolan,on the long hills he will be hardly beaten by anyone…

You're absolutely right about the fact that yesterday performance was amazing for someone with his characteristic; his problem is that the Giro will be decided in the last three days, and with the form that he has showed so early in the season( Tirreno first, and now here in Trentino) i'm wondering if he will be able to keep it up till the end of May.
In any case i don't see him outside the top 10, and i think that with a good TTT he has a shot to be in pink after the Cervinia stage.

He could have been building all season to have the form he has now. He'd want to be showing some form now the Giro is only 2 weeks away. Unless you are suggesting he is peaking now? I don't think we've seen his best for the season.

2 weeks, time to start getting excited...maybe after LBL.

Kreuziger has proven time and time again that he needs a miracle to contend for a podium spot in the Tour or Giro. Last year he had all the luck in the world and still only finished 6th.
