What a cracking race it was to watch, too. 4 uphill finishes in the 500-700m range.
Yesterday's was a mini epic. Scarponi and Serpa attacking Sagan, who held onto the overall by the skin of his teeth.
The last climb was about 4 and a half kms long at a fairly steady gradient, around the 7% mark, I'm guessing.
It even topped off with 200 metres of Strade Bianche!
More like this, please.
(Classica Sardinia rounds it off, tonight.)

Clearly Sagan is still suffering on longer climbs

So was Gesink at this point of his career. And he has the potential of winning a GT now.

Anything can happen, but I think Sagan cares more for the classics than high placings in a GT.

While I think a lot of riders would like to be as "bad" as Sagan on the longer climbs, Gesink was pacing Evans up the Mont Ventoux at this point in his career, so that one doesn't fly ;)

As long as Sagan weighs 73 Kgs I wouldn't be comparing his development to Gesink.

This point of his career would be Gesink's second season as a pro. The start of it :)

Hence I said he cares more for classics than GT right now. But who is to say he can't drop weight and turn into a real climber?

Contador started as a time trial specialist and look now.

And the fact that Sagan can climb this well despite his age and weight further proves my point anyway.

Gesink's second season as a pro, properly speaking, was 2008.
