what was the point of Euskatel riding on the front for so long...apart from working for Contador. Are the Spaniards forming an alliance in revenge for Valverde?????
I think they thought AC would wait for tomorrow to do anything and it would be a good day for Anton to go for a win.

Anyway, good stage.

Rujano 17th overall.

Only 2'48" behind Vince in 2nd.

If he makes it down Crostis he will be in 2nd by the end of the weekend.

Pretty boring stage today. The camera reception was terrible and the camera work with it wasn't much better.

No surprise really with Contador winning it. I learned after the 2010 TdF to never bet against Contador. He's just above everyone else in every way and today's race was a mercy race for him. I'm sure he could have gotten double or triple the time if he wanted it today.

While Contador may be the leader, Rujano is the star of this GT. He's coming up big time and is making himself look great. He's definitely earning some press and some extra dollars. Depending on how well he can follow Contador and how much Contador wants to drop everyone, he could be looking at 2nd.

I have no idea on what the peloton was thinking today though. It seems that they all are relying on Contador getting suspended. I think all of this marking each other bs is going to end up biting them in the backside. They all looked like losers today and Scarponi should have saved himself the embarassment and not even tried to follow. I think the contenders have lost alot of face so far and clearly established themselves as second rate. Too bad that Ricco couldn't make it to the Giro without getting suspended as I would have liked to have seen what he could do against Contador.

The competition is really weak. Nibali, krezuiger and scarponi are just not good enough in the high mountains. Basso and schleck, the two who are at least able to compete with contador are not here. and very good climbers menchov, anton are not on top form. Oh ya i forgot about this rujano. Can keep up with contador, but lost 6 minutes before the real race started, south americans!

I watched the stage at a friends place so I didn't post.

But boy that was awesome :D Rujano proves the people wrong saying he was "just lucky" on the Etna etc. He is clearly vastly superior to Scarponi/Nibali c.s.

Also, I think Scarponi is underperforming this Giro. His group was barely 20 seconds ahead of Kruijswijk... That can't be good right?

Those are the great times. :p ;)

Scarponi will return after the restday. Giro is won in hotel.
That young Dutch doing good again. Bravo.

Well, you are right if you compare them against Contador. But then everybody looks weak in that comparison.:(

I think even if Andy were here it would be a big gap. Andy's climbing in May is not so desirable. He has a hard enough time in June keeping up with his brother in the Tour de Suisse. He always seems to peak just in time for the TDF though.

How about we compare them to Arroyo then? We're talking about a man who couldn't win the Giro with a 12 minute head start last year and he's 4th only 16 seconds behind Nibali. I think it's safe to say last year's basso would have destroyed everyone but Contador and Rujano this year.

The jersey for the best wheel-sucking is already his.

Nibali has been pretty average this year hasn't he?..

This is Nibali;s absolute top level. He can't do any better than this. I predicted this before the giro. People who think Nibali is anywhere near Contadors level are deluding themselves.

Also such a colourless rider who only follows. I can't understand people being a fan of him

Obviously it's more boring than last year, but I think it's really fascinating to see Contador at his best doing this.

Watching someone hammer everyone else is entertaining once, twice, a few times. Watching them do it over and over again is appallingly boring. The Indurain and Armstrong years were a disaster.

Kinda degrading his perfomance there.

Nobody else is even close to AC's wheel.

Good thing I was a toddler when Indurain was around + missed about 4 of LA's wins :p

Better to suck wheels than to suck whatever the contenders sucked today.

Actually he did do some work. How much exactly is hard to tell as the cameras didn't stay with Contador and him. It seem to me though that Contador, nervous as he is, didn't really feel comfortable with not leadind and hence tended to take over without need.

And to call Rujano a wheelsucker is unjust anyway, as he actually launched the attaking today again. He already did this up to Etna.

Sick, after 2 mtf (Etna, Grossglockner), Rujano has cut the deficit with Nibali in MORE than half.
It's only 2:47 now between Rujano and Nibali...

I think Rujano is going to finish 2nd

I can stand watching someone hammer the rest as long as they really drive it home. You just have to be in the mode to watch for second place now.

Checking out the stage rankings I see 35 men in just 4 minutes after the winner, or 33 in about 2:30 after the 3rd man in the stage. It doesn't seem they raced hard today.

That is a clueless comment, when it was Rujano who initiated the attacking phase. Look at the soft-pedalling second group if you want "wheelsuckers".

I am a big Lance Armstrong fan but after a while I started feeling really bad for Ulrich always being the bridesmaid.
