"We wanted to show the public something new and special. We didn't hear any objections from the riders or teams today but we understand that they complained to the UCI judges."

"I'm sorry that things have changed. It's definitely not our decision. It's been imposed on us by the judges designated by the UCI."

That's just sad...

This is a load of bs that the officials bring up this issue now. As Barrus said, this was known well in advance. Why was this decision not made during the rest day, giving RCS time to alter the route to still include an additional climb? Nothing changed with respect to team cars between then and now.

I would have been fine with the route being changed on such short notice if the reason for the change was rider safety. If the officials said that the climb/descent was unsafe for medical vehicles to follow the riders, ok I buy it. But the fact the reason is a "sporting issue", because team cars cannot follow the race, is ridiculous. If everyone is under the same conditions, then why is it not fair?

I am thoroughly annoyed.

What the hell uci playing at. Riders would've made strategic plans around this mountain. In football if a game gets cancelled they still get to play(rescheduled) it. Here, the riders and the fans get robbed on a spurious 11th hour edict.

I need to say this argumentation is ****. If this was the case why not bring this up earlier, why wait untill the last moment, it was known long in advance that there would be no team cars

This really is crap. Now I hope that Contador completely destroys the entire field and wins every stage of the rest of the Giro and the tour, just to completely **** off the UCI and show the completely farcical nature of this circus

EDIT: Don't mind me I was just ranting

Sums up my own thoughts quite nicely.

Pity, Davide Cassani rode it a few weeks ago as part of his stage previews and it looked great. he met some Astana guys (Kreusiger was 1) training on it.

Just got back. Most important question. What is the weather like for tomorow in and around the Ovaro area in Northern Italy.

From what I can see it's sun all day with almost no wind at Ovaro, so the weather should be just fine!

I can't honestly see the problem if the riders can get mechanical help from motorbikes!

What, they take the Crostis out despite the fact that it would have been a sunny day.

THe gods were cooperative. THE GODS WERE BEING COOPERATIVE.

now now, be nice to the poor things that have to climb the beast that is zoncolan :p

The experience is ruined for me. We were promised Crostis.

The Zoncolan is good, but meh, without the Crostis it is nothing.

to paraphrase WL

This tour is tainted. Only Zomegnan will ride out of this Grand Tour a winner.

(warning, opinions subject to change once they actually hit the Zoncolan:p)

Well, i guess that is some consolation. Minor but in this life we take them where we find them.

I cant help but feel however that the riders didnt like Zomegnans alternate idea for the stage which would also be very very difficult, so they decided to "accept" the Crostis, then the day before once its too late for a route change, say they wont ride it.

I really only cared about Zoncolan because they wouldn't have done anything on Crostis anyway. Hope Contador wins, he needs to win. Come'on!

I predicted Contador to complete the trifecta! Has it been done since Eddy Merckx(in the Giro)?

Well my source is DMI - Danish meteorological institute, which may be wrong in Italy, but is right most of the time in Denmark.

Crostis definately an mtf next year then?

Or an MTTT, like when Kronplatz was abandoned due to rain in 2006 and resurfaced as an ITT in 2008.

Maybe that way they could climb Crostis then do the flat strade bianche of the Strade Panoramica delle Vette then stop before the descent, as risk is minimised when every rider is alone.

Even if it was Riis that complained to the UCI?

I think it is a fairly typical day southern Alps day with quite a lot of sunshine and getting hot in the valleys with temperatures in the high 20s at sea-level or about 20C at 1000metres. However, the heat could spark off a few localised thunderstorms? Therefore likely to stay dry but there is just the chance of a shower later on, be very unlucky to get it.
