I hope in Bakelandts, Vicioso, Serpa...

The flu is killing Serpa... that's why He has been underperforming... The same for Ochoa...

For this stage I can see Lo Squalo attacking... He will attack in every descent for the rest of the Giro, He really wants that 2nd position and He needs to do that cuz Scarponi is improving his form again and He is a better climber than Nibs...

This is a great stage for Kiriyienka hope He can get in the breakaway...
Also Visconti could do great here...!
Also I would have an eye on Betancourt... He has been on antibiotic but He said today that He wants to attack and get the stage for Aqua&Sapone, He said that Garzelli and all the team has been really nice with him, etc...

Cam Meyer in his blogs has marked today and tomorrow as days for the breakaway (and he will attempt to try to get in them)

On another forum that I frequent (not cycling), I tipped Freire (at the time) to win the '07 MSR and di Luca to get that year's LBL.

Hopefully he can get a result and live up to the hype he gets. Don't get me wrong, I think he is very talented as he has been putting out quite strong numbers at the AIS but numbers don't necessarily equate to being a top rider. I think he is a very talented rider and hope he does well but people are all expecting him to be the next cadel or to dominate world cycling. They need to stop putting so much pressure on him.

Anyway, I think Arroyo might be a good pick for this stage.

I can definitely see Nibali attacking on the first descent here. Other GC contenders will try to catch up on the Cat. 3 climb, but I think this one's for Nibbles with 30secs advantage.

Cameron is still riding track as well as road. This is his third Giro. He's developing slowly. He's not going to go out there and shake heads on a hard course like this whilst he still is doing both disciplines. So he doesn't need to deliver to live up to his hype. Until he ditches the track and goes permanently on the road, he is not going to live up to his hype. In 5 years time from now you'll hear more about him on climbs. With that said he has the ability to win the stage tonight but expecting him to live up to the hype this early is playing a dangerous game. What happens, happens.

He is a future GC Grand Tour rider. It will take at least 3 years for him to get there and start showing it. It's not going to magically appear now.

I think his hype is extrapolated by those looking for hype

I'm for a hard mans stage today. If Vino was in it I'da picked him, since he's not I'm going all left field and picking a break full of Movistar to go early with at least 35 riders in it (not including any of the top ten) then to fragment by the Aprica at which point the break continues with 10 riders max. Arroyo won't be allowed to take a punt, shame. but Kiriyienka or Visconti might, there could be De Luca in there somewhere too.
Visconti then De Luca.
I'm also bigging up Mr Downing for a mid pack finish. His first major tour and the lads doing well, I'd really like to see him take a flyer, so I'm hoping he gets the chance to go in the early break and at least stay until the Aprica.
Can't see any Liqui boys out there today, all will be shepherding around Nibs and controlling Scarponi/LeMevel/Bertie yadda yadda.

Best wishes and thoughts to Xavi.

I'm on the breakaway bandwagon for this stage. I reckon a big group (double figures numbers) will get away, they'll shed some on the first climb, then it will be reduced to half a dozen or less on the second climb with a 3-5 minute winner coming from that.

I reckon the GC will be completely quiet.

Fantasy cycling choice for today...

Betancourt or Meyer?

I guess this has a couple of parts: will they get into todays break, and if so, will it stay away, and if so, who will likely do the best at the finish?

(answers on the back of a postcard to the usual address)

These climbss are not that big, especially because the peloton will more than likely take it easy today.

Even the remaining sprinters could try to get into the break today. Guys like Ferrari, Murilo Fischer, Montaguti...

I don't think Montaguti is a sprinter, he is more or less an allrounder.

he was 45th up the Zoncolan, beating Carlos Sastre, if he catches the break today he may achieve a good result.

Right, i tried to mention guys who can climb a little and would do good in sprints too.

I like when breakaway stages of when they stay away. Generally hard attacking racing which is generally quite tatical.
