It's a minor element of this day, . . . But when's the last time a U.S. rider won a grand tour mountain stage?

There we go, best case scenario Nibali goes, followed by SK and VV, Chavez can't go, SK puts 30" into Nibali on the final climb ;-)

And my point relates to the initial post, he cannot as he like everyone else is suffering after a very tough Giro and in particular a very tough stage yesterday.
I don't think you're fully grasping the meaning of "nothing to lose".
Surely the abundance of WT teams means that points are essential. Only understandable that Majka doesn't risk his position and potentially lower his market value.

:p

Wonder what his value as a GC leader will be after this Giro...

They're probably not rating him too highly. Will he have to slave at the Tour for Contador again this year?

Levi won a TT that still counts but wasn't a MTF. Horner as stated above

Slightly OT but why couldn't BMC send Porte or VG at the Giro, Puma would have someone to work for...

Seems to me he's had a few changes too many already...

Probably everyone is very tired and not sure about their true strength.
Deep red yesterday.
That's not a valid excuse for Majka, though. He has absolutely nothing to lose, and yet...

Majka towed Valverde up the climb yesterday
I watched yesterday's stage twice. I'm not sure where you're getting that.
