Pinot has had this reputation of a solid TT'er who's under-performing in the TT's based of his 2016 rides.

Maybe it's just that he's not a good TT'er who over performed for a few months in 2016.

Let's see if Yates pulls a Crushweak in the 3rd week

Big Tom is no Nibali though......
I fear that if Yates did pull a Kruijswijk, it would be Froome the one playing the Nibali role.
I think Froome is the biggest contender as well as of now.

Froome could win another stage, but then he’s much more likely to blow up the next day as he did on Sunday.

I think TD was the "loser" today -- I really thought he'd put 1:30-1:45 into Yates. Not impossible to win now, but much harder.

How much is Froome hating his off day Sunday right now? He'd be third right now. I doubt he can win but he could potentially put the hurt on Yates -- I have no idea if Froome and TD would work together to drop Yates at some point.

Why? He performed well enough on only 2 stages so far. Maybe it will come together for him, but I think it's more likely that he will have problems in 1 of the remaining stages.

Yes, but I still think he has bigger chances of winning the overall than Dumoulin. Which speaks to just how much Yates is favourted atm. Dumoulin has much better chances of podium obviously

100% agree, he's much more likely to carry on as before - just meandering along doing OK but not spectacular. But, like Nibali 2016, the potential is there that he could do something ridiculous and unexpected. I'm not sure it is with Dumoulin or Pozzovivo.

Haha...the most likely scenario is Dumoulin whining endlessly and asking Froome to do the work !

On the other hand I see Poels and Dawg going all in at some point...

I think it's not impossible to imagine Froome somehow gaining 2-3 minutes on the Finestre stage, or the following day. Like Nibali 2016. Whereas it's very hard to see Dumoulin attacking and dropping Yates at any point - either as an ambush move or on a climb.

As Valv.Piti says - Dumoulin looks a sure bet for the podium, but he's pretty predictable in the way he races. Froome isn't - he's much more capable of the extra-ordinary.

Yates just said at RAI he thought he lost the jersey today because he was really tired in the last 10km. He said he attacked the climb too much and paid for it afterwards so he was expecting to lose much more time.

Excellent, Yates with 56sec advantage, Dumo didn't win it, Pozzo better than I expected and really great in comparison with TP, Froome with real chances to finish at podium, and finally absolutely entertaining Thibaut Pinot as a Pure Joke of this ITT.
