Carthy, Brambilla, Wellens, Masnada or even Visconti might be able to pull this off depending on the line they'll get...

Carthy and Berhane are pretty good climbers who will probably get a fair bit of rope but also won't enjoy the conditions too much. Visconti's not a specialist but the nature of the final climb isn't bad for him and he has won the GPM before. Brambilla is a good wildcard. Masnada's a decent climber as well.

Thought this would probably not be a day for the break and less so now that it's formed. Astana will make this a tough stage.

I have to say the first week of the has been nothin that I expected. So many suprises along the way. Great to see that the pink jersey is not so easy to keep and there are many who fight for it. Froome looks really uncomfortable and so does the hole Sky team. So far. That 1-2 for Michelton-Scott was gorgeous victory. Yates could keep the Maglia Rosa for a long time because he is really a strong rider. And todays stage looks really amazing. Can´t wait.

Meh, no Ciccone. Masnada to win.

I think the peloton may let the break take this.

If you want to gain time I think you want to take it slow until the last 45km or so.

Mitchelton probably will not force the issue unless the break gets a ridiculous lead; they have no incentive to do so.

No GC contenders in the break although I wouldn't recommend giving Brambilla 15 minutes.

Expect the pace to rise in the last 45 km or so, though no serious attacks from GC contenders until the last 5km.

How much would the break need at the bottom of the final climb? 4 minutes?
Anything less than 6-7' would be very risky.
It totally depends on which team drives the peloton in those last 50km.

Interesting to see that Pozzo has 2 guys in the break. Maybe trying something already on the Calascio climb?

Think theyy can do that. Brambilla is not good enough to keep a 7min lead in the final weak. Good rider, but not GC potential in my opinion.

Yeah, me too. But still strange. They would be much more useful with him in the bunch if he doesn't try something.
