We've had some great breakaway battles so far and I'd expect this to be another.

Only chance of it being more than that is if someone in GC is tipped off that the race won't make it as far as Sunday lol

Underrated stage. From the second hill to the last sprint is >130kms with no flat on twisty roads. How do you control that?

A prediction: there will be a new maglia rosa in Cesenatico.

Another prediction: Fuglsang to either win or lose 20 mins.
That would bean interesting new style of over/under betting ;)

Hopefully a repeat of L'Aquila 2010 happens and people like Zakarin, Masnada, Geoghegan Hart, McNulty, Pedrero, Vanhoucke gain minutes before the mountains.

My Instagram friendly betting pool has Sagan as the favorite. I think it's a little too tough for him. Do the oddsmakers agree?

Large breakaway that will fragment into maybe three groups by the end maybe. Sagan might take a day off on this one. Some GC action but the riders look evenly matched so far so not much damage. Next TT stage should be interesting re top five on GC.

Oddsmakers have Sagan as slight favourite.

It is probably 70% chance of being too hard for him, however if it isn't then he probably has a 50% chance of winning (not taking breakaway into consideration).

If it is too hard for him then there a more contenders for the stage, reducing each of those individuals riders chances.

Thanks. I went with Fulgsang. Long shot but I'm behind in pool and need a miracle.

They will probably show the statue of Pantani during the live broadcast. Although it's his hometown Il Pirata probably wouldn't have won this medium mountain stage.

Puccio, Conti, Visconti, Guerreiro and De Gendt in the break. Maybe Puccio can make the Giro for a small team like Ineos.

I'll be very surprised if anything happens.
hard to say, it could also be 100k of great gc action instead. Given the uncertainty about the continuation of the race, I would tend to say it's going to be spectacular.

I think this is too hard for Sagan. The climbs are longer, and you don't always have insanely strong days. And if he's in the break, they will all ride against him.

I think Sagan should aim for the intermediate and then spare for tomorrow

A very good summing up of why he is favourite. Could well be too much climbing for Sagan although he can win from main group or break if on another amazing day but if he is not able to contest then there are 30+ riders who would fancy their chances from a small break or of the GC guys with some finishing kick like Almeida if it comes back together.

Break: Bidard, Boaro, Pellaud, Padun, Benedetti, Rosskopf, J. Hansen, Clarke, Torres, Campenaerts, Narvaez, Richeze, Van Empel.
Best placed rider in GC is Narvaez: 43'44" behind Almeida.

That's not very nuanced. Riders are under contract, they cannot "just go home" if they want. De Gendt said that there were several riders coughing yesterday, and that the Tour was organized much better regarding rider safety.
