Putting power down on flat gravel can be harder than on climbs I find. The bike slips around much more if your pedalling technique isn't good. On climbs your weight is further back so the rear wheel doesn't move as much.
Still odd how he lost four minutes on an early stage though. That really looked as if he did not even try to limit his losses.
Yeah I think uphill is still a watts challenge, we rarely see sterrato really impact what happens on the Finestre, that's mainly just the difficulty of the climb. But once it's rolling there's a wide range of skills involved, which finds some people out
