Evenepoel can still be the best GT debutant since... since Andy Schleck?
... and the best of the current field.

I mean someone like Ciccone was dropped much later and lost almost as much time so in regards to everyone else who was dropped, I'd say he did well after being dropped.
Then it turns out it was actually mainly a "sterrato thing" for Remco today

If Bernal continues this way and win the Giro, it could really help him to get on the level of Roglic/Pogacar. Especially when it comes to confidence.

Confidence sure but I'm pretty certain Pogacar or Roglic would have beat him today. I think they're head and shoulders over the other GC contenders tbh.

Almeida held the gap for him at 1:10 or so for a long time. Then Evenepoel had another crisis and it went out to 2 mins at which point it looked like he was going to lose huge time, but he clearly managed to pull himself back together again. He basically lost nothing on anybody in the last few km.

It's insane how riders on that final climb blew up like it was the Zoncolan and not some random 3rd category climb without any steep ramps. Just brutal.
I'm honestly just happy the stage lived up to its hype. Now please don't let us wait another 10 years till the next proper sterrato stage

He's 7th in GC now. I don't think there were many followers who would have called that a bad result before stage 1.
If this was just an isolated bad day, he needs to regroup and nice things can happen during the next ten days.
He has proven before that he learns quickly, so he needs to use this experience to improve. Nobody learns by winning with a 10 minute gap.

you seem to be in a bad mood today

why would we expect it was his worst day, i expect him to lose minutes on Zoncolan
yeah he expended a lot of energy today also, so many times he was riding by himself, he could totally blow up yates' style.

I doubt that if Strade Bianche is anything to go by

I don't think Roglic has raced Strade, and Pogacar wasn't far off and I feel today would have suited him more anyway. I mean he likely is with that main group til that last climb as is Roglic and I'd fancy them to win then.
