Looks like this edition has been designed for Cattaneo, Masnada and Ciccone.
Rumor is he's going to the Tour. Can't keep the #1 TTer in the world away from the yellow jersey forever. Also Ineos didn't even get a stage win last Tour it would hedge their bets a little bit.Have we heard anything about Ganna's plans in the coming years? Continue to be a time trial specialist and do some stage hunting? Or will he try something else? I actually hope he doesn't plan to become a GT rider......
I very much agree on this. But fear that if don't see any other Italians higher than 5-10 in the Giro the next couple of years, we could a route customized for Ganna if he goes all in for GTs and shows some real promise. That doesn't mean 120 km ITT and no tough MTFs, but just that they drop several or most of the epic climbs like Mortirolo, Finestre, Stelvio and so on.I think the Giro would make a big mistake to cater to someone specifically. I think they should aim to be the hardest and most beautiful race in the world and this route is certainly failing at the first part.

Podium might be a bit too much for Ciccone, maybe a top 5.
Witth this route even Fortunato might aim for a top 10 in addition to stage wins.
Ciccone actually worked a decent amount on his TT during the summer, in the Vuelta opening TT he was one the same level as Bernal and Valverde. Not great, but no longer really bad.
Surely Ganna needs to show any indication that he could do that first.I very much agree on this. Absolutely. And we're still a long way from that. And I also have serious doubts that it will ever happen. Dennis didn't manage it. And Dumoulin only a couple of years. And Ganna is taller and heavier than both those.Surely Ganna needs to show any indication that he could do that first.
And I flatout don't buy that he can be remotely good enough
All in all it looks like a very good route for Michael Woods.
Next year Ganna will really target the spring classics (mainly MSR and P-R) for the first time. He says that he might loose some weight to improve his climbing in a few years, but if you read between the lines he probably wants to see how far he can go as a one day racer first.I very much agree on this. About every more pure climber should prioritize this next year. Carapaz, Yates x2, MAL, Mas and several more. They won't stand a chance in the Tour against the Slovenians, so it would be better to possibly fight for the victory in the Giro than a 3-6.place in the Tour.On a more serious note it looks very good for the Frenchmen. I think Gaudu, Bardet, Pinot will face a tough decision.

If I'm Bora I send Hindley to the Giro with Fabbro and maybe Higuita. On a more serious note it looks very good for the Frenchmen. I think Gaudu, Bardet, Pinot will face a tough decision.
Only Almeida and Nibali?Have anyone confirmed they will be targeting the Giro next year?

You go for Giro no doubt, they would get destroyed in Tour. Giro GC and Tour stage hunting if you are still good enough. Landa and Buchmann should go for Giro as well.On a more serious note it looks very good for the Frenchmen. I think Gaudu, Bardet, Pinot will face a tough decision.
Carapaz and MAL as well.Only Almeida and Nibali?

Good! At least some interesting names. Ineos should also send more. Martinez and Yates perhaps?Carapaz and MAL as well.
What about Bucmann. Isn't he probably the best climber in Bora?I think Bora mentioned that they wanted Vlasov to get more experience in the Non-Tour de France GTs before targeting the Tour itself?
Buchmann hates cold, rainy weather and has a history of underperforming in those conditions, that's the main concern when it comes to him riding the Giro.Good! At least some interesting names. Ineos should also send more. Martinez and Yates perhaps?

Also hope that Simon Yates and a couple of the French dudes will target this Giro. And of course Remco.
Still hope a few more come. I would actually think it's a year where a LOT of riders better be riding the Giro than the Tour cause a 10% chance of winning the Giro is a lot better than a 0% chance of beating the Slovenians. You go for Giro no doubt, they would get destroyed in Tour. Okay. Interesting. So then it's probably not too likely to see him there.Buchmann hates cold, rainy weather and has a history of underperforming in those conditions, that's the main concern when it comes to him riding the Giro.
When you compete against Pogacar, Roglic with support of his guys or the combined strength of the Ineos team, you will be more or less without a chance. All the other teams should rather target the Giro with their best GC guys unless there are some very specific reason not to. Like the argument above that Buchmann is *** in bad weather.Still hope a few more come.
