Kinda ironic that Helicopter Remco got sick before them.
IMO this isn't that much out of the ordinary for a cold and rainy Giro. Not to mention the riders who raced in Romandie before, where you pretty much always have horrible weather before the Giro. Could be that Covid protocols also prevented colds and the flue from spreading and now without it riders are more vulnerable to it than before.

This, the complaining about the Giro not having strict rules is stupid. No one prevented QS from wearing masks all the time for example, but for some reason they thought it was ok to have multiple guests every day on their bus and having family at start and finish. Blaming the Giro when the most teams themselves aren't being strict is unfair.

Pedersen doesn't seem 100% either, but yeah pretty sure 75% of the bunch is somewhat "sick", if it isn't from covid, it's from the weather in the first week. Nothing new in GTs with bad weather honestly.

And Groves not trying for the points isn't a good sign either, but I think it's known he was bit sick the last few days.

About the Vlasov situation: Doesn't something like this happen everytime the Giro has rainy first half and the stage after the rest day starts with some climbing?
I'm thinking about Chaves in 2018, Santambrogio on stage 16 of the 2013 Giro and so on.

If something similar would happen at the Tour they'd all be quiet, same with riders asking for stages to be shortened (tbf, if there are gusts of wind up to 80 km/h and the stage goes through a section with lots of trees alongside the road there are some legit safety concerns, one can't deny that).

Given how hard Milan was prepared to go to win that sprint, not participating might've been the smartest move.
