Don't think I've ever seen a gap to a two-rider breakaway fall this slowly, certainly not in week 1 of a GT.

It's sad that De Marchi is probably also just riding for 2nd, Clarke can't loose this in a sprint right?

With Jayco having no need to chase, Alpecin for some reason not chasing and Ineos making things a little difficult for Thomas to get back I think they have this.

Alpecin is a very frustrating team when it comes to these situations. For some reason they still want to present themselves as this small, underdog team that are free from duty. Remember UAE Tour when Vacek won?

Sprinter teams are cooked. Ineos easily closed a 20s gap over 2-3 km. Peleton only gained 5s on the breakaway.
The thing is that nothing has happened this stage and this race in general that makes you expect cooked sprinter teams.
