I know it's frowned upon but Ineos should put the hammer down
Probably too early really, otherwise they'd run out of guys. They got the bonus seconds out of continuing to ride, but between that and the climb there wasn't really much to be gained now that the guys like Swift have been dropped, and it would just have angered UAE more and caused them to go hard and ruthless in response.

This is Premier League Cycling. This is what the UCI and the teams want. The same field in every race and a massicely reduced discrepancy between the best and worst rider, meaning much bigger fields for longer. Tight racing until very late on, youtube cycling where the action can be condensed into a 10-15 minute hype video.

That said, in almost any era of cycling, Oropa would be like this if included at this stage in the race when there are no big time gaps yet. It's effectively Unipuerto, it's not very difficult, and it's a tempo climb.
