This is Premier League Cycling. This is what the UCI and the teams want. The same field in every race and a massicely reduced discrepancy between the best and worst rider, meaning much bigger fields for longer. Tight racing until very late on, youtube cycling where the action can be condensed into a 10-15 minute hype video.

That said, in almost any era of cycling, Oropa would be like this if included at this stage in the race when there are no big time gaps yet. It's effectively Unipuerto, it's not very difficult, and it's a tempo climb.
Oh I agree 100% this climb was never going to be insane and obviously Pantani was the most insane climber we will ever witness just seemed all the cool things happened before. Thank god for YouTube
