The break is falling apart because the peloton is not letting them go, so they are forced to ride high tempo.

The weak are off the back and the strong off the front.

Visma and Bora has full control over this stage, every scenario that can happen, they have it covered. Yates can ride without fear and if he drops Carapaz and Toro on Mortirolo he can take minutes with the help of his satellite riders.

Astana should really give Ulissi these mountain points. They can be first, second an third. 180, 130 and 95 UCI points. Noone is interested in these points and Ulissi is only ~30 points behind third place

I think that is only because of Polti.

If they were not hell bent on keeping the break in range, one of the GC teams would have to make the choice of either spending their doms early, or let the break go.

Good thinking - it would bank them an extra 95 UCI points in Rome.

it's a tough ask, but there aren't really many chances left for Piganzoli - or anyone else at Polti. I think it makes sense to try to make the jump.
Needs to go though. Polti's domestiques won't close it down for him.
This is his home stage and there's no reason to hold back.

Sure, but it's annoying because it's messing with the GC action ;)

Is he a good descender?

Their plan may be to spend all their doms on the climb, for him to attack downhill to bridge the gap?

Time for Israel to start chasing. At the latest 2 km from the top of Tonale. Gee can profit the most from a scenario without riders up the road after Mortirolo.

Blythe just making a GC gap up for McNulty. „He‘s only ten minutes down.“ It‘s hard to do research on a motorbike to be fair

I wonder about Caruso sitting in the middle of the Polti train.

To me it indicates Bahrain wants him to follow if Piganzoli attacks - and if Caruso goes it will start an instant domono effect.
