I think CVV is along for the ride. He has not shown anything this year. Tommy D. and the Z-Man seem to be in good form, but they both have hopes of winning ToC.

Besides, Eskimo Nell can maybe manage a week without coming down with something. Three weeks and he'll have all sorts of medical problems, mainly concerning his legs not being able to turn fast enough.

TSF: That web page looks more ciclamino than rosa.

As an old timer it just struck me that if anyone had told me 30 years ago that English speaking riders would dominate a stage of a race like the Giro they would have been laughed at. The balance of power has well and truly shifted.

Only just got to see the stage.

Overall the results were as were expected. None of the main favourites did worse than usual, nor better than usual.

Which in itself is quite unusual.

Nice ride by Wiggins. He came here to win 3 specific stages and roll around in the pack the rest of the time. Even if he fails miserably at the other two, his Giro's already a success.

And nice rides by Bookwalter (big surprise) and Porte (not so much, but he was the fastest by quite a margin in the second half)

So your countdown was a day ahead :p

I think, in terms of the GC guys, it was expected that Vino and Evans would be in each other's positions, Sastre did the best of the lot. Basso is a potato.

Eurosport commnentator says newspaper pronounced "Le Keep" - doubtless spelt utterly different - has the headline "120 revolutions per minute to glory for Wiggins"

Sounds a little high.

I thought it would be interesting to see a team classification from the first stage based on the top five riders, instead of the top three, as it is the fifth rider over the line that counts in the TTT. I added up the time of the five best riders on teams with a GC candidate/outsider, here are the results:

Astana - 00:52:48
Sky - 00:52:54
BMC - 00:53:04
Garmin - 00:53:20
Cervelo - 00:53:22
Liquigas - 00:53:23
Androni - 00:54:21
Lampre - 00:54:27
Acqua - 00:54:39
Caisse - 00:54:50
Colnago- 00:55:22

You could argue that all riders should be taken into account, but that was too much work :)

The main point to be made is that these numbers make BMC look much better than expected, and also that Astana looks very strong.

I'd say that's an understatement. Even a pure climber like Dyachenko was up there.

Wiggo appears to have the legs. That was an amazing TT run. He still has 20 days of pain left to prove but if he can climb then he has a good shot.

Also was it me or did Millar looked to have some bike handling issues. He was all over the place. Cornering was awful as he looked to be over steering and had poor lines
