Hoogerland just wants the points, presumably? He can't possibly think to go all the way alone.

On Giro form: Nieve

Didn't Nieve got dropped by Sella already?

Or he was caught napping, don't know, but he already had to close a gap this stage.

By the way can you earn points for the maglia rossa and maglia verde in time trials this Giro?

I mean the climb time trial of course for the mountain points.

I remember the race well. It was April. And from what I recall he didn't crack, just decided that he wasn't going to follow Anton's attack since he could best him on the final day's TT. Which he did. And it was April.

Four guys. Anton, Contador, Juan Mauricio Soler Hernandez and I think the other may have been Valverde but I doubt it. There were four guys, two stuck with AC when Anton went. Anton went ahead for the stage. Took 10 or 14 seconds out of AC if I remember correctly. Nobody followed Anton, they just let him go for the win.

AC also had a hunger bonk in 2009. Caisse and Saxo worked against him. I know one team leader was Franck Schleck and the other was probably Lulu. They took 2 minutes out of him. Next day AC attacked and came all but 20 or so odd seconds off getting the time back. Too bad first to third were separated by about 10 seconds. Saxo and Caisse worked against him when he took off. They didn't think he could stay away all day. They were wrong. AC admitted he goofed. Armstrong had a sly remark about AC in the press, said "He has much to learn." The bonk was normal, AC's comeback the next day was pretty epic.

Garzelli came 3rd on Etna. He did poor yesterday but he did poor on Zonc last year too and we all know what happened after that, so i would rate Garzelli ahead of Nieve.

Fully expect Stefano to take Cimma Coppi, unless Hoogerland takes it now.

Hope they race for it and dont just let him take it.

I think so.

The ITT is a Cat 1, so you get points for that.

I'm not sure about the Rossa, but I would guess so. Doesn't matter too much as Contador has already won it.

Garzelli saved some energy the last few stages, so I think he is fresh, but Nieve looked very strong the past two stages.

I was thinking Nieve too, but won't the podium contenders want to catch the break and take time bonuses again?

Hoogerland/Sella/Garzelli/Nieve are the only ones who have a chance of winning, the rest will be caught.

But even those will still need 8-10 minutes at the start of the Marmolada.

Did they just say 7-8 hours on the bike today?

That sounds about right. 230 KM and 6500 meters of climbing. They've already been in the saddle 5 hours+

Yep, will probably be 6.5-7, around 2 hours to go.

Actually 2 and a half hours I think. So 7-8 is perfect.
