Without time bonusses at the finish, Rodriguez will win just as much time if a long break survives or not.

I just don't see anyone sacrificing his team in a meaningless stage like this, with tons of difficult mountains ahead.

If there are no time bonuses that's different. I had guessed they were available on all but (dark green) high mountain stages. Still the stage is an opportunity for multiple teams to get a win, and I dunno whether thy would bet on the break on a stage with no classified climbs, despite the false flat. There was a stage with ~1% incline last year won by the bunch, and another slightly hillier one finishing on an uncategorised short climb also won by the bunch.

This is a breakaway stage why would any favorites try andything with wednesday in mind, finale is steep but 2km of flat means there is little point in JRod etc trying anything

This stage looked perfect for De Gendt in a breakaway, no chance of that now sadly. Will probably go to someone noone has ever heard of like the last two stages.

Anybody know why Huzarski lost so much time over the weekend? A top ten was looking a possibility, but suddenly he's nearly fifty minutes down. Illness? Crash?

Either way it's a bit of a shame for NetApp.

Don't know about Illness or a crash so i presume he did it on purpose and will attack at some point in the next stages to maybe get a stage for them.

Sport Director Jens Heppner after yesterdays stage:

Even before the race we knew that we wouldn't be able to have a say today. That was why the riders were supposed to look for larger groups so that they could get through the stage as best as they possibly could.

I've heard Ricco sent plants to everyone because that's how the favorites behaved in the first 2 weeks :)

Come on Pavel Brutt :)

I wish.

"Now we're riding a more structured kind of cycling," Brutt told Cyclingnews in Assisi. "It's out of question to break away. We're here to win the Giro with Joaquim."

Maybe because he isnt a very good climber in the high mountains:rolleyes:

All wildcard teams have done well so far and animated the race. Probably again a stage for a break involving androni/netapp/farnese/rabo/vacan/sky?

He is a more of a puncheur than a real climber.
Netapp has been decent considering that 4 of their best riders aren't here - Konig, Wyss, Janorschke and Schulze.

Huzarski had a food poisoning. He's feeling better, he was aiming for top20 GC but now he will focus on breaks.
