I think he got caught behind the crash and just made it back, looked like a teammate paced him back. I am fairly sure he was not there a bit earlier. I think all the other big names are in the front group, seen Contador, Krueziger, Scarponi, Nibali I think and Menchov is probably there because there was a few Geox. Plenty of Ag2r as well.
