That's one way to spin it.
Today it was absurd how Steinhauser waste energy in the break.

They have to use that energy to do the climb hard. If they don't do the climb hard, Del Toro is very explosive for the final stages.

Tomorrow, all EF with Carapaz, setting a high pace from the start of Finestre.
That carries the risk of Carapaz exploding, but I think it's worth the risk of losing the podium.

They promised us Bobbele and Ulle together on German ES, but there is no Bobbele.

Maybe there'll be a surprise and Jens Lehmann will show up with his chainsaw at least.
He's there now!
Asked as someone who won Wimbledon at 17 what his advise to Del Toro would be: "If there is a chance to win something young, why not? Take it." Stepping well into the Jens Voigt void with such an in depth analysis!

I get what KOM is saying but just doesn't hold true for WT level racing, there is no such thing as an easy race, you can be on pancake flat terrain and these guys fry each other, The problem with TV and internet is that these guys make it look easy.. Yes terrain with mountains is different challenge, but it's the level of the racers, what they are doing would kill most people.. And this selection is pretty f-ckin' awesome.. Quality talent!!
Have fun with math!!! Will solo Decathelon stallion lose 1:38 in 2.7 kilometers!!
The fact that today was an epic dissapointment doesnt mean that it was because of 7% and with 8% we wouldve had actual "carnage" this is so beyond the most epic levels of stupidity i dont even know how to entertain that so called argument

The sterratto stage was exciting, but for a lot of wrong reasons.

The goat attack was thrilling.... and so was del Toro's win in Boromir or wherever now that I think about it..

"Real" Grappa barely goes above 10 and it brings carnage.
So does Finestre.
Climbs like Stelvio, Gavia.....will destroy the peloton as well
Heck, even Tzecore as last climb would give us action.
But the difference between constant 8-11% of Grappa and 5-7% of today is massive. Obviously if you really try you can explode the race even on climbs like col de Joux, but there was some situation that did not favour that. Carapaz is close enough that he can take more than enough time tomorrow, S. Yates does not really have it in him to win and the other riders like Pellizari and Gee like the explosivness required and this gradients.

Great win by Prodhomme. Del Toro looking comfortable again as did the team. Tremendous ride by Majka. Yates can't seem to do much and three week races have always tested him except for the one he managed to win. He just has no answer to the accelerations of Del Toro and Carapaz. He was looking around for help when the race was further up the road. Think Del Toro will probably hang onto the pink jersey now especially if his team can support him like they did today.

Del Toro beyond expectations to a point, because I noticed that Carapaz's attack on the Mortirolo the other day was not effective and of course Del Toro went on to win. He must be gaining confidence each day. When asked by Gazzetta dello Sport yesterday if he thinks he is a man he said, no I must learn. Learn indeed he has been doing. When asked about today's stage and how he thought he would do, he said "I don't know. I just hope it's over soon". Soon indeed it has been over. Now it's just Colle della Finestra between himself and glory. Ad astra.

And that's where the stage design matters.
It not surprising that people like Majka, McNulty and A. Yates are able to stay with the 10 best climbers on 7%.
That was a stage designed to be easy for control from a very strong team.
All they had to do was swap stages 19 and 20 around (would have been akin to 2018), but they desperately want the big marquee name-value-climb stage on the penultimate day.

Del Toro still there, I wonder how many would have predicted this after his time drop on 16. I wouldn't have. Whatever folks' misgivings about the stage or how it was raced (as there are on this board for literally every race), he's outperformed most if not almost all expectations.

Simple fact is others didn't have enough to put UAE in difficulty today.
Imagine being 21 years-old, a few years ago you were a junior, but now are riding ahead of Carapaz, Yates, etc. and are one climb away from winning the freakin Giro!
