He has a lot of merit, but I think the level of this Giro ended up being very low.

I remember when Pogacar destroyed Carapaz in the 2021 Tour. It was Pogacar's second Tour, and he was only a year older than Del Toro. That Carapaz was far superior to the current one.

We'll see tomorrow; maybe he'll destroy him, but for now, I think Del Toro's emergence is inferior to Pogacar's and more similar to Bernal's.

Bernal won a Tour that I've always thought was of a very low level. Alaphilippe and Buchman were top5 . It was Alaphilippe's only top5, and Buchman was in decline. His real rival was G.Thomas, a teammate.
This Giro reminds me of Bernal's Tour.

Del Toro's greatest opponent is Carapaz, who is coming off a difficult few years.
Simon arrived with less options and Gee finished 7 minutes behind Landa in the TDF2024, with Landa being a domestique.

It's a great achievement, but it reminds me of Bernal's Tour. Rivals in decline and in Bernal´s case, a teammate like G. Thomas.
I didn't consider Bernal a future dominator; I don't think he would have been one without accidents.
I wasn't comparing Del Toro's level to Pogacar's, who we know is better. Still, Del Toro is a very big talent and, from what I've seen so far, a pretty cool cat. So I'm rooting for the lad. Remember he came to the Giro to work for Ayuso. Any way you look at it, leading the Giro at 21 into the penultimate stage is huge. Forget about Pogacar and the Tour for now, let's just appreciate how this kid is handling being a leader in the second biggest GT (at least I consider the Giro as such) deep into the race. Plus I have a soft spot for Mexicans that grew up in poverty, then succeed.

Well deserved first grand tour win by Nicolas Prodhomme - he certainly earned that.

Kudos to Del Toro, I think he exceeded many people's expectations today and has shown excellent 3rd week recovery we haven't seen before.

Now it all comes back to stage 20 and Finestre. Of course Carapaz has to make it count there. His problem is his team is weaker than even a depleted UAE. Richard will have to crack Del Toro mano a mano. Simon Yates and Derek Gee are not out of it yet either.

But I think if Del Toro is in touch at the top of Finestre he will win the Giro.

I think either Gee or Caruso could overtake Yates, but too far back to claim overall.
