I would assume so... I see him just following Sastre and Evans. Perhaps he'll have to make a move to drop Vino... but I think most people expect him to lose some time naturally in the high mountains.

He can't afford to do it the whole way, though. If he does he'll just lose the Giro on time bonuses

Yeah I agree.
I think some might be taking a lot of this to heart. I think this was all pretty funny :D

I've seen the same happen on a dutch forum, I think Evans is just a polarizing person. :p

Oh wow, Liquigas absolutely killed the second half of the course. They clearly felt the benefit of staying together and not dropping guys like Sky and Garmin did.

Ding ding...we have a winner.

Even Rab did well by holding on to their riders.

Dont know who brought up the wind - but its a 22kmh wind from the EAST, not a tailwind.

All teams who did an easier first part and spared some riders take a lot of time in the second part.

BMC blown up a lot of riders early and lose time. Sky shed a lot of riders early, and lost a lot of time in the 2nd part..

It's clearly not the wind, but the way teams handle the TTT. Liquigas kept all their men until 1500m...

Don't really agree. BMC did a great second half compared to the other early teams. These are more experienced teams combined with a bit better conditions. BMC did way better than I expected.

I don't think you can say it's "clearly not the wind".

Perhaps that it's "not clearly the wind" would be accurate.

There are a lot of factors of course. Liquigas DID keep their riders and that likely helped... but the increased tailwind probably helped too.

Well... if he wheel rides with the leaders to the top of climbs, one would think he'd be good enough with the extra energy he'd have saved to take his share of any bonuses available.

BMC did an excellent TTT, I expected them to lose more. I just don't think the wind was that much of a factor here.
There was also more rain for the teams that started later, for example Sky. There are just too much factors to say the external influences where decisive.

The thing that is most decisive is still the strength of the teams... so I see this, without falls, as a fair result whatsoever

They won't let him do that. And on the steep climbs drafting is hardly useful. If the tempo is too high, you're gone.

Looks like a good ride from Astana: not spectacular, but not disastrous either. vino will be well-placed going in to the mountains.
